Quitting KVCD, reverting to mpeg-4

I've been using KVCD for more than a year and i loved it, being able to fit a movie on one cd at great quality, but i've recently bought an mpeg4 dvd player which plays divx and xvid files, the quality you get is so good that you can't tell the difference between the DVD and the mpeg4 movie, i'll still use KVCD on movies for others, but converting to mpeg4 is easier. thanks for everything

But you'll never enjoy full original movie chapters on a DivX.
That's one of the main reason I'll never get a DivX/XviD player.
With KDVDs, I can get 3 movies on a DVD-R, with no visible difference from the original, plus a standalone DivX player will be a nightmare in a couple of year, as you will have to keep upgrading the firmware to keep backward compatibility with MPEG-4 Codecs.
5 years from now, ALL my KDVDs will still play on any standard DVD player ;)

If you want to be disgusted from Divx, just have to read this :
http://www.100fps.com/how_lossy_is_divx_100percent.htm

Enjoy :-D

you're probably right i can already find a couple of problems with my dvd player, it rewinds at 16x only and doesn't resume mpeg4 files very ennoying, i guess they haven't perfected playback on standalones yet, i don't have a dvd burner yet, kvcd is probably better on dvd.

No way! I can play my kvcd in all the dvd player that claim to play vcd and I tested a lot.
More i included menu and chapeters.
I'm stick to KVCD and KDVD of course.

some bold statements in this thread...

no visual quality loss with lossy re-encoding on a considerable ratio?

misinterpreting 100fps... aiaiaiai

other statement from same site

Compared to an uncompressed movie this is about 1:106. It's fascinating to see what DivX is capable to do without nearly any visible loss
hmmm, i guess what MPEG1 would make of those pictures :p

test was not done to show how "bad' divx was, but to show why re-encoding is bad and why no lossy intermediate steps should be taken.

i think i am getting about the same quality to encode to kvcd and xvid, except it takes 2 hours to do the same encoding with kvcd and 5 hours with xvid, i guess i'll stick to kvcd, i shouldn't have spent the money on that damn mpe4 player. :?

Hi Bilal,

Well, you really have two good choices other than MPEG-4, and that is KVCDs and KDVDs :)
So if your player does play then, you really didn't loose your money, as you still have the added bonus that you can throw in MPEG-4 videos, if you have to
