KVCD: 180 minutes templates?

Quote:

KVCD-LBR released today.

First, some explanation on the purpose of this template.
It's designed to fit around 180 minutes of Wide Screen material encoded at 23.976fps on a single 80 minute CD-R.
The quality is very close to a standard VCD. The primary purpose of this template is for "convenience". Not quality. The target users are travelers, for the kids, and viewing on small TV sets. In small TV sets, there's barely any visual quality difference between the mpegs created with this template and standard VCD mpeg files.
Still, it is VERY vieweable, even on large 32+" TV sets. On HDTVs, small artifacts are very visible on far scenes and small objects. On close ups and medium shots, its very close to a VCD.
Viewed side by side at a regular viewing distance, compared to a VCD, there's hardly any difference.
Note: The template is set to encode audio at 112Kbps. At this low bit rate, please use either SCMPX or Headac3he to encode your audio. You will get the best quality from either of these two programs.

Here are two samples, created with the template:

http://ns1.shidima.com/kwag/greenmile-lbr.mpg ( No sound )
http://ns1.shidima.com/kwag/greenmile2-lbr.mpg ( This one has sound )

Both samples are 60 seconds.

Here's the link for the template, which will be posted later on the download area: http://www.kvcd.net/KVCD-LBR-352x240-(NTSCFilm)-PLUS.mcf

The PAL template will be posted later today.

Special thanks to rendalunit, for helping test the ALPHA and BETA template and doing many test encodes.

Enjoy!

I tried this template and for contact.avi and I get for a 143 minutes film 1320 mb... what am I doing wrong ..was I not supposed to get less than 1000 mb atleast
Or does this mean it will only work for wide screen ..can this limitation be overcome

nat123 09-15-2002 03:59 PM

ok...got it

Even though it shows the file size as 1320mb after encoding 1% and checking size it was only 5.9 mb ..cool
so a maximum of 600 mb... I love U

Can we encode real media files too ...tell me I did not ask this

Hi nat123.

This 5.9Mb in 1%... you're talking about a sample with or without sound ?

you gain space IF you need... playing with sound after the video file is done.

C ya

No it is Real

I encoded the file with this fully and found the size to be 700mb. That easily fits on a single cd. Great . THis film had 200,000 plus frames
But when I tried encoding independence day ( the file size hit 900+ mb) can't fit that and that movie was less than 180 minutes.

Do I need to tweak anything ...
