Which Template To Use ?

:? Ok Im trying to convert Akira Digitally Remastered [Part 1].avi it is 62 Minutes long. The problem is that Ive tried screwing around with the aspect ratio options for it to come out widescreen but it keeps coming out fullscreen. The movie is 720 X 368. In the aspect ratio options Ive coosen 1:1 VGA and 4:3 525 Line (NTSC), then converted them but they come out widescreen on the damn computer but not on the TV. After asking around for help someone told me to try the 16:9 NTSC Line option and then burn. I really haven't done it yet, but Im gathering more info. Im trying to convert this movie to a high quality Mpeg 2 file and was wondering if there is some template available that adjusts the settings and makes it look good, and gets rid of the stupid blocky pictures that happens in dark backgrounds and high res action scenes. If so someone point me in the direction, or tell me where that template is. Also is there a way to make an 800MB Non Standard Mpeg 2 file..?

Re:

The blocks in the video: isn't that a by-product of divx? Kwag mentions that high quality can't often be expected from divx in the FAQ, and I agree 100%. The target MPEG2 can only be as good as the source.

Are you talking about real widescreen or letterbox? If you just want to letterbox the movie, use the clip features in TMPGenc (or whatever encoder you end up using) and make sure you have the appropriate masks enabled.

If you're talking real widescreen, I wouldn't know where to begin. I don't have a widescreen TV, so I haven't tested anything. What if your divx isn't widescreen? I may sound totally ignorant, but doesn't a specific signal have to be maintained? Or can you just make anything widescreen using certain settings?
