KVCDx3 result = jerkiness

After converting a perfectly good source, which plays great on the laptop, I've ended up with a fantastic quality movie BUT its very very jerky. :x

What I mean by this is, for example, when the camera pans it is simply jerky. Its like a few frames a second are being missed out. If someone is running its not smooth.

My source is SVCD (mpeg2 video/audio ).

Can anyone help ? :?

Hi jmjarvis,

Try changing the GOP-structure to 1-3-3-1. For me, in most of the cases that helped.

Looks like you're encoding with the KVCD template set at 23.976, but your mpeg file is 29.97. It your source was shot FILM (24fps), you should IVTC.

Hey Kwag,

Can't get anything past you :wink:

Yep my source was 23fps.

I only have two little niggles now (had soooooo many until I discovered you and your templates was about to give up - a huuuuuuuuge thank you for that ) and one of them was the jerkiness - mentioned above.

The other is the audio delay, I think, caused by DVD2AVI. Like I mentioned before I cannot open the source in TMPGenc. The only way to do this is using DVD2AVI B4 TMPGenc.

I have read sooooo many posts frrom you about using these 2 programs and that you have no problems. I wondered if you could knock together some quick notes on what settings you have for HeadAC3he and bbMpeg as I have never used these before ?

You mentioned IVTC - should I use tmpgenc to do this ?

It's far better to use decomb.dll in a AviSynth script.
Just add the following two lines in your script:
Telecide()
Decimate()

Your script should look something like this:

LoadPlugin("C:\encoding\MPEG2DEC.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\encoding\decomb.dll")
AviSource("C:\capture.avi")
Telecide()
Decimate()
BilinearResize(336,224,0,5,352,470)
#TemporalSmoother(2,2)
AddBorders( 8,8,8,8 )

Then just encode at 23.976fps with your KVCD template. Use the above as a sample for the position of the telecide and decimate lines. The other parameters are from a capture file I had, and yours will be different.

Hey Kwag,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Forgive the silly question here :oops: but there are only 2 KVCDx3 templates - and I get 3 kind of sources. Do I choose the KVCD template I want the output to be or do I pick the template to match the source ?

Kind of confused here - could you please explain ? :roll:

If I can open the source directly with TMPGEnc then I pick the template I want the source to be otherwise I open it up in DVD2AVI -> do a save project -> open it up in TMPGenc and then pick the template I want the source to be - am I doing something really silly here - :oops:

TIA

Use the template that corresponds to your source. Either the NTSC or PAL. In this case, you would use the NTSC template.

Have a read here on IVTC: http://www.inmatrix.com/articles/ivtc.shtml
And here's the decomb guide: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/decomb.htm
