TMPGEnc: SmoothDeInterlace in my script
 

Hello,
Just some settings questions(maybe stupid? :? ):
-I've done some movie enconding lately,progressive hollywood stuff,
and under MPEG Settings-Video-Video Stream Setting,the Encode mode
tab jump to Interlaced when I load my script,should I change it to
non-interlace or just leave it as it is???

-And under GOP-Structure tab I've got
Number of P picture in GOP set to 5823 when I load KDVD templates,
is it "normal" or should I change it?
(When I load "normal" DVD-temp. the number of P-Picture is set to 4)

-And finally,when I'm doing KVCD's,and using SmoothDeInterlace in my
script,should the Video Source Type under the Advanced tab be set to
interlace or progressive?(It was interlaced before I DeInterlaced it :lol: )

hi viking...

i'm not very familiar with interlaced sources, but here's what I'm pretty sure I do know :wink: :

1. If your target is KVCD (that's what I gathered from your post) it's MPEG-1, and therefor has no interlaced option. So it doesn't matter if you set it to interlaced or progressive in advanced tab. your encode will be progressive anyways.

2. The GOP structure is fine. The 5823 is just a little tribute to Mr.Kwag (look at your telephone pad) and is overridden by the max. frames per GOP which should be 25 for a PAL KVCD. (or 15 for PAL KDVD)

3. If you use a De-Interlacer in your AVS script, on an interlaced source, it's de-interlaced before TMPGEnc comes into play. Use Non-Interlaced.

I was a bit unclear on my first question;The source is dvd,"Hollywood"
movies,which are progressive(not interlaced) in 99% of the cases.(Ref.
Boulder guide to deal with interlaced sources in the Optimal Script Forum).
The target for my encodings of this movies are KDVD,so when I
load my script into TMPGEnc the Encode Mode tab jumps to Interlace,
like I wrote in my first post here,sooo should I change it to non-interlace,
or just leave it as it is?

I've ran a test encoding today,one with encode mode set to Interlace,
and another one set to non-interlace,and I did'nt see any difference on
the final result,so I guess this isnt any "big deal" :?: anyone :?:
