How to Convert AVI to DVD?

I might have the wrong title but i did not know how to write it but oh well here is my question. Is there a guideline on how to convert .avi files to dvd format. like for example i have Tomb raider 2 as an avi and i want to burn it into a DVD-R how can i change the format is that the same as making KDVD or is something totally different. I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
