CQ always wrong! Help!

Hi everyone,
I have too many problems to convert DVD to KVCD .
It seems that the reason is a wrong calculation of CQ made either by DVD2SVCD or CQMatic.
I used CQMatic (1.4.04)/Calcumatic (1.1.14) to find the correct CQ and I fed DVD2SVCD with the result.
Even in this case I didn't succeed in fitting the movie on 1 CD!
Perhaps I failed to pick up the correct TMPGEnc project file to feed CQmatic?
Anyway, I enclose DVD2SVCD log hoping you could understand the problem. Thanks

Bye bye

CQ Calc in DVD2SVCD ahas always been false and will always be. I drop this tool months ago only for that.
Why do you post you DVD2SVCD log only in the CQMatic section ? Forget DVD2SVCD and post the log concerning CQMatic !
And tell us how much percent your encoded video is over the target.

paolo 01-13-2005 08:08 AM

I got an encoded audio (mp2) of about 97.000 KB and an encoded video (mpv) of about 664.000 KB.
The result are two muxed files (mpg) of 814.000 KB and 247.000 KB!!!

I enclose CQMatic log as you requested (after feeding it with the script generated by DVD2SVCD).

For your information, I'm trying to backup "The Bourne Supremacy".

Thanks a lot, Phil

You problem is not in the encoding then, but in the muxing.

97 + 664 = 761 KB and even with the overhead due to the muxing, you can't reach 1 GB !

How did you mux ?

Note: sei italiano Paolo ?

paolo 01-13-2005 09:12 AM

Sì sono italiano.

Muxing was automatically made by DVD2SVCD (through bbmpeg, I guess).

In the advanced setting of bbmpeg output I saw that Program Stream Type is VCD and VBR is checked?!

I remember that my first successful KVCD experiences were mpeg1 streams muxed as SVCD (Could it be possible?).

Thanks Phil

For sure. Stupid question :-)

Normally these are the correct settings. But perhaps DVD2SVCd send them badly to bbmpeg because 814 + 247 = 1061 KB ~= 100 minutes of video muxed in standard VCD. And what is the length of your movie ? 104 minutes ! That means that the muxing has been done in VCD with VBR unchecked

Try to mux the mpv and the mp2 manually (either by bbmpeg or with tmpgenc) and everything should be okay.

Yes it is. That's what I'm doing anytime because my player handles that better than VCD.

paolo 01-13-2005 09:54 AM

Thanks Phil,
I muxed manually with TMPGEnc and I got a single CD!

However, I would like to understand why the DVD2SVCD 1.2.2 has this problem while 1.2.1 worked well!

Bye

Two ideas :
- you installed 1.2.2 onto 1.2.1 and the old ini file for 1.2.1 is not fully compliant with 1.2.2.
- that is not the same version of bbmpeg that is delivered between the two release.

paolo 01-13-2005 10:33 AM

I'm sure to erase previous version of software so I'll check the version of bbmpeg and I'll let you know.

Anyway, as bbmpeg is embedded in DVD2SVCD, the guys who released 1.2.2 version should have been aware of that. Am I wrong? 8O

paolo 01-13-2005 10:38 AM

I just happened to realize that the KVCD matrix embedded in DVD2KVCD is wrong!
Did anyone know that?
I knew from a post of yours ( :D ) that DVD2SVCD had the wrong matrix but I thought that DVD2KVCD was correct...

DVD2KVCD is the plugin for DVD2SVCD done by azel (? if I remember well).
No, noone never reported that.

For your question about bbmpeg, noone is supposed to do VBR VCD, so I guess the author simply not tested that.

encoding problems?

Hi Phil,
this is not the correct section to discuss but I have few other problems for the same movie encoding so just tell me if we have to move the thread elsewhere.
I succeeded in doing my KVCD from The Bourne Supremacy. The final CQ was around 64, quite satisfactory for me, but in some action and noisy scenes (i.e. car chasing) I got bad audio with a time offset and video jumping many frames.
Is this due to max bitrate? Could it be useful to lower the max from 2500 to 2000? Or what else can the reason be?

Bye

Paolo

Dialhot 01-18-2005 06:26 AM

Yes you should reduce the max but not so much else the picture will be pixelated. Try with 2300 (btw I do all my encodings with 2300 as max).

But all depends on the player. You should read this page :
http://web.tiscali.it/benis/dvd/formati/formati.htm

paolo 01-18-2005 10:17 AM

OK. Thanks a lot

:D

paolo 01-20-2005 03:57 AM

WHY????

I lowered max bitrate to 2300 (audio always at 128) but the result is the same: video is jumping frames and audio is out of sync.
What else can I do?

Paolo

What is your player brand and model ?
Are you doing MPEG1 or MPEG2 ?

paolo 01-20-2005 04:13 AM

LG 5183
MPEG1 (muxed as SVCD).

Thanks

I wanted to suggest you to do that :-). I guess what you have to test then is MPEG1 VCD and MPEG2 SVCD. Okay MPEG2 will give lower result, but it's better than you current problems.

paolo 01-20-2005 04:24 AM

OK Thanks Phil,
I'll keep on doing tests.

Paolo

paolo 01-20-2005 04:41 AM

:(
First try: unsuccessfull

MPEG1 VCD has the same problems.

Tell me that I haven't only one remaining chance...
