KVCD on Pocket PCs?
Hi guys :)
I've got this friend and he has recently bought an handheld Pocket PC. Now, we were talking about how good his new toy is, when he showed me a small avi file to demonstrate it's multimedia capabilities. So I told him about KVCD and he got interested but he'd like to see it working first. And I offered myself to demonstrate it by encoding a small clip of a movie for him. The problem is, I'm not used to those LCD resolutions: 240x320. I need to resize it but I don't know how. FitCD doesn't do anything below 352x288. What tool should I use to help me resize in this particular case? Or does it have to be done manually? Care to give me a hint on how? Let's suppose I have a PAL 720x576 movie with a movie area of 720x428 ;-) BTW should I use overscan or not? BTW2 the embeded software player rotates the movie when we choose full screen. Does that mean that I could go for 320x240? BTW3 I'd like to try it with NuEnc instead of Tmpgenc. TIA Cheers |
Hi Rui,
You can try FitCD or MovieStacker and target as 352x240(288) (No overscan), and after you're done with the settings you get, divide them by 2. So your target will be 176x120(144) ;) CalcuMatic supports those (SmartPhone) resolutions, so it will work. I'm currently fixing the "CQ_VBR" issue on CalcuMatic, which is a must for those resolutions, and I should have an update later tonight. Edit: It's fixed. I just uploaded it ;) -kwag |
would'nt RMVB be better for a Pocket PC or cellphone? mpeg1 and mpeg2 just seem alittle to roomy for the little toys. and from what i've read lurking around the whole 2 days i've been here. the RMVB and MKV formats surely wont be to much of a stretch for someone like you to conqour :)

Well, some time ago I did the complete movie "The Matrix", and I fit it on 128MB, and it looks great on a PocketPC :) The thing is that being MPEG-1, it will run on just about every player on any device, without the need of external Codecs. So you can carry your MPEG-1 around just about anywhere. But if someone really REALLY wants the best quality at Smartphone resolutions at the smallest possible file size, then the best option is Ogg Theora ;) http://www.theora.org -kwag |

I'm doing a full encode right now just to see if CQMatic did it's job correctly :) Got a CQ_VBR value of 16.93, so the complete movie should look just like that sample. -kwag |

hi i got a pocket PC as well just a a quick question how come Cqmatic don't accept 320 * 172 resolution ?
