What to change in the guides (KDVD instead of KVCD)
Hi all,
Time ago I managed to convert some avis I had to KVCD looking at the fine guides at kvcd.net. Result was quite good. Now I've got a dvd recorder so I'd like to convert these same avis to KDVD instead. As far as I know video format is different but this will be handled by tmpgEnc templates and new optimal avs scripts. Right? Do I have to take anything else into account? Now for the difficult part: sound is another format too... What I need is to know what to look for in the guides in order to be changed. Thanks in advance. Dei:Bit |
The main diff are :
- video must be MPEG2 - resolution must be 352*240 / 352*480 / 704*480 or 720*480 for NTSC (both of these point are taken in account by the template, like you said) - audio samplerate must be 48 Khz (and not 44.1). There is nothing new ! DVD accepts mp2 audio as VCD did. But you can also use the original ac3 from your sources. It's an option. |
And there is full support for true selectable subtitles if needed.
For authoring, instead of VCDEasy you have a lot of options: -DVDLab Pro * -DVDLab -Tmpgenc DVD Author -DVDAuthorGUI * -IfoEdit * -etc... *-Subtitle support. |
Aothoring soft
Thanks for the help!
Some of these authoring softwares is free or has an usable demo? Just want to test at this point. I didn't have thought of the need of bulding new menus!! :-( TIA, Dei:Bit |

Still confused...

What about framerate? I thought 25 fps was correct for PAL but I keep finding posts stating 29.xxx is the correct one :?: TIA Dei:Bit |

Use Avisynth for resizing (and all processing) and TMPGEnc only for encoding. Go for 704x576, 25fps is the correct framerate for PAL.

Wich audio format is smaller?

I've more doubts on resolution and aspect ratio but I better open a new thread. Thanks for all yur help. Dei:Bit |
The size depends entirely on the bitrate. Audio with a bitrate of 128kbps will produce equally (maybe a minimal difference) sized files, be it AC3 or MP2.

But the quality of the result depends on the format. It was never prooved that, for stereo, AC3 is better than MP2. So choose whatever you want. @Boulder : you're faster :-D |
Keep the competition, I love to receive **fast** responses!! :D
Of course, you're right. I didnt realize both of them are CBR so size exclusively depends on bitrate. In fact I thought ac3 was the same beast as AAC (mp4) wich can be VBR. I don't know where this idea came from but, anyway, I should have thought a little more before asking here, I'm sorry. Dei:Bit |
