DVDRebuilder not working...
 

Hi all,
... yes, a long time without posting... now that you were so quiet without silly questions :twisted:

I tested DVDRebuilder some time ago, and worked well. But I focused mainly on KVCD and KDVD (well, my DVDRebuilded were also KDVD, with notch inside :wink: ) and didn't use it anymore.

I've got a couple of Metallica DVD I want to rebuild together... if possible. So I downloaded latest DVDRebuilder version 0.93, RB-Opt 0.17, and began to play again with them.

But I can't go further the Prepare phase. In RB-OPT, when I test the avs, it throws an error. And when I test the .d2v file in TMPGEnc, it doesn't work. It looks to me like an error related to DGDecode.dll. I put the DGDecode version in the DVDRebuilder package in the same directory as DVDrebuilder.exe, and in avisynth plugins folder.
But maybe the problem is not in DGDecode.dll but in the way *.d2v files were created with DVDRebuilder.
Do you know how DVDRebuilder generate *.d2v files?. Which decoder does it employ?.
How can I sort this problem out?.

I'm sure there's a lot of info I didn't give you, that you need for an answer. Just make me know.

BTW, for this KDVDRebuilded Metallica, I don't really mind about video quality, it is audio what I care more (as you can guess :twisted: ). Maybe it would be easier to just use DVDShrink. But know I'm curious about this problem.

Other question will be how to put two DVD9 in a rebuilded DVD5. We'll see...

AFAIK, D2V are gerenated internally by the programm, and must be decode with the dll provided with the package (that is an old version of DGDecode).

What I can suggest is to use the roskas' installer that will propose you to have a rebuider.ini already configured with everything okay.

On my PC I have : "Path to decoder : C:\Program Files\DVD-RB\DGDecode.dll". And the dll is 257 Ko, dated of 21/01/05.

Not possible if you want to keep both menus (else you need to have a third menu to select beween the two original menu).
Else it's quite simple : use DVDShrink in reauthor mode and with no compression to have the two DVD ripped in a single VIDEO_TS directory on your disk. And then use rebuilder on this ripp.
(you will need two DVD driver to allow DVDShrink to read from the two disc during encoding, or you have to firsts copy them both on the HD, and use this as source).

Sorry for butting in on the conversion but have you got the latest beta version of DGIndex? I believe it is 1.4.0 beta 6 and it addresses a few issures. I can't remember what version of DGIndex your DVD-RB uses.

Im saying that is the problem but who knows. :)

Let's see. As I cannot open the avs in TMPGEnc nor in VDub nor in CCE, I think (and I tested it again with the correct path) it can be a D2V generating problem, I don't know why... The DGDecode.dll version I've got is the same as you post.
I added the decoder path in setup, I had forgotten. But as you said, I don't think an incorrect path has nothing to do with a bad generated D2V (if this is the problem).

This is just what I have thought... is that difficult?. I don't know how to rebuild two DVDs. I don't think that rebuilding each of them to fit half DVD is a good choice... any hints?.
I see your point here, but this is the way in case I discard original menus, isn't it?. It could be a way, but this will mean more work to generate a menu with all the sections in the DVD.
How can I load 2 DVDs in DVDShrink to reauthor them in a single VIDEO_TS?. Maybe is a silly question...

Im not sure if the 0.93 supports this version of DGIndex but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try and install this into your DVD-RB directory and see how it goes. :)

I know what you are saying though if this release doesnt support the new version of DGIndex then it is pointless. :(

No it does not !
As I said, DVD-RB generates d2v using an internal code. And you must use the DGDecode.dll that is provided with the tool.

To open the D2V you must have a "loadplugin(...)" at the first line of your script that load the DGDecode.dll that is in DVD-RB directory. Else you use the one that is in Avisynth plugin directory and this is perhaps not the correct one.

But I can open directly the d2v file in TMPGEnc. It didn't work with DVDReb ones, but I then realised that the d2v reader in Enviromental Settings is the one that came with DGIndex, and not compatible with DVDReb output. In Avisynth plugin directory I also have the DGDecode.dll that came with DVDRebuilder...
I'll try with LoadPlugin(), but I'm afraid that...

I thought of a different way: as DVDReb does a d2v file for each VTS, and (fortunatelly) I just have 2 VTS in first DVD, I'll generate d2v with DGIndex, and make use of its DGDecode.dll, that I know work together well. But this is just of a help in this case. When I have more VTS... I will surrender.

BTW Phil, how can I load two DVDs in DVDShrink?. Maybe you didn't answer cos it's a silly question, to be smart... :oops: I ask again in case you just missed my question.

you can load 2 or more main movies using re-author mode in dvdshrink. this will loose the menus.
yesterday i tested that guide brom Blutach and with very good results. i could split one dvd-9 to 2 dvd-5 with working menus(you can edit the menu,etc) with all features

There is really no reason that it does not work.
BTW do you tried an otehr source ? DVD-RB is somehing far from zero default. Perhaps your source simply gives him problems.

In reauthor mode as said before. You have a tab called "DVD Browser" that allow you to browse to whatever directory you want. By default it is the DVD drive that contains the first DVD you opened, but you can browse to an other drive or to a directory on your hard disc.

And for your other question : keeping the two menus and putting a third one to select one or the other disc is possible with DVD lab but only if your movie is in a single VTS, that means that you lose the bonus.

And what about using a VMG menu in DVDlab?. My last KDVD was authored this way, since I had a problem: one film was 16:9 and the other 4:3. I don't know if VMG could solve this issue too.
BTW, a little offtopic: do you remember (sure not: so menu forums...) a problem I had with DVDlab and subtitles?. I think it was due to having three subtitles in one film and just one in the other. In my last KDVD, same situation, no problem with VMG menu.

Of course. But it is not where the problem is. A VMG link VTS only. You can't have 2 VMG in a DVD. So, the DVD you import can't have VMG themselves. And more over, DVDLab can't import multi_VTS, but only single VTS. DVD with menus + movie + bonus all in a single VTS are very,very rare !

A VMG is needed only when your VTS have different parameters. This is the case when a movie is 16:9 and the other 4:3.
