deinterlacing issue

Kwag,

I still want to tackle this problem only because the little ones really love this movie.

My goal is to have a VCD 2.0 with the full Disney's Tarzan with best video and sound at 29.97 fps. Should be possible regardless even if the DVD doesn't do VCD@23.976.

DVD2AV1 displays

Aspect Ratio..........16:9
Frame Rate...........23.976
Video Type...........Film 99%
Frame Type..........Progressive

-------------------------------------------
First method:
Force film in DVD2AVI. View in TMPGenc with KVCDx Plus 352X480 with 3:2 pulldown. If I understand about the 3:2 pulldown, it shows on my TV as 29.97 at the quality of 23.97 non-interlaced.

Problem: On playback in PowerDVD, wherever there is motion, I see interlacing. I don't know where to go from here.
-------------------------------------------
Second Method:
Turn off force film in DVD2AVI. View in TMPGenc wih same template. Interlacing is present of course.

Problem: I can't get ITVC in TMPGenc to work. I 've also tried using decomb filters or maybe I'm doing them wrong. Help! I've fallen and I can't get up!
--------------------------------------------

Now, I know I am doing something wrong but I'm only a one-man army at home doing this as a hobby so I turn to you guys for guidance. I can't find anyone who is doing VCD/SVCD. Everyone I know says they get theirs from people who get them from other people. I don't have anyone in the immediate area to just help me out. Funny, thing though. Everyone wants to be interested in my findings so that I would end up as the support guy that everyone would turn if they decide to do it for themselves.

Anyway, the story of my DVD copy adventures...every forward step I take, I take two steps back.

@2COOL,

You don't deinterlace it because it's not interlaced. If DVD2AVI says frame type- interlaced then you need to deinterlace it if you're using any of the KVCD templates (but not the SKVCD or KDVD because they're mpeg-2).

Also since your player doesn't support 23.97 fps then you need to uncheck force film in DVD2AVI and encode at 29.97 in TMPGEnc. I don't see the reason for 29.97 -> 23.97 (force film) then -> 29.97 again??

I though I did this before but hey I'll start again.

Turn force film off and get Tarzan.dvs@29.97. Load into TMPenc, choose template, and change framerate to 29.97. Do a test m1v and view in PowerDVD. Okkaayy...that's care of that problem.

Now I really want to test if this will fit on 1 cd.

So in fitCD...
1. open source Tarzan.d2v
2. set destination to VCD
3. file size prediction activated
4. save as Tarzan.avs

Here's where I a brick wall pops up out of nowhere in the middle of the road. I have already stated this in a previous post and it's always happening. If I open Tarzan.avs in TMPGenc, I immediately get the blue screen of death. If I open just Tarzan.dv2, no problem.

Every avs file I inputted in TMPGenc using a 23.976 d2v source were flawless. Every d2v I have inputted in TMPGenc, whether 23.976 or 29.97, were flawless. But I can't get an avs with a 29.97 source to work. Hmmmmm...

Any inputs anyone?

You need to get the latest version of MPEG2DEC and replace what you
have: When d2v works, but avs gives you the blue/green screen then
it's usually mpeg2dec.dll. :)

I have already downloaded the dll many a times. Perhaps, I still have a corrupted one. Before, I do that, I did get that 29.97 source avs to work.

All my previous avs scripts were set to 1 cd. If I set that to 2 or more, TMPGenc can open it up. Here's the next problem. All my M1vs have ghosting. What's up with that :?: :!:

I'll try to get another mpeg2dec.dll. By the way, where did you get yours?

Started from the real square one...

I decided to overhaul all the programs and the shtuff that goes with them.

TMPGenc Plus 2.58
DVD2AV1 1.76
fitCD 1.0.5
AVIsynth 2
mpeg2dec.dll

Welllll? 8O .....I can open avs's @ 29.97 source now. I hope it holds. Personally, I don't think it was my mpeg2dec.dll but I do have different one now. Can't tell, my previous and new were 180kb. I also did another non-force Tarzan.d2v. I'm going to bet that I had a corrupted d2v.

I still have the green displays in TMPGenc though. My highest priority VFAPI Plug-ins are my Avisynth/VirtualDub script reader v0.1 and below that is my DVD2AVI Project File Reader 1.76+.

I've taken a big step forward and so far so good! :D
