CQ and CQ_VBR Mpeg Settings

Hi!Can somebody explain the difference between the simple Constant Quality setting and the Constant Quality_Variable Bitrate setting available in the TMPGEnc Mpeg setting options :?:
I thought that CQ had to use VBR anyway,so don't understand why there are 2 options here...
...But then again, there are a lot of things I don't understand...

HI mjclark,

CQ and CQ_VBR both are VBR, but with completely different bitrate distribution algorithms.
We found out a long time ago that CQ_VBR is optimal for resolutions of 352x240 and lower, while CQ is best for 352x480 and higher.
There's a whole thread about this in the forum, which explains all the tests we did, with a lot of samples.
