M2V File - canNot Open, or Unsupported?

BE KIND N00B

Hi,

i made some m2v files from some films i wanted to turn into kvcd's, the idiots guide mentioned to save the video as m1v, but i missed out that bit and did m2v instead (which is default).

now when i try and put the audio and video together

i get an error "file "D:\folder\video.m2v" can not open, or unsupported"

now i know these should work because i made the m2v videos with tmpgenc.

is there anyway around it, or will i have to re-do the films in m1v video format

thanks

Novakry

Which version of tmpgenc do you have ?
The input support for m2v is recent. (the tools always output to m2v f course, but wasn't abble to read it).

Very old version (near 3 years) but the support of mpeg2 was introduced in 2.58
http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_history.html

Go in the "Environnemental settings", tab "VFA Plug-in" and check that the mpeg-2 decoder is checked.

BTW 2.59 has a bug with finalsizes oversizes.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. This is only for MPEG1 (not MPEG2, nor m1v or m2v alone), but that is a good point.

It is buil-in, not external plug-in. That shows that your version is too old.

See for 2.524 :

Edit : in last solution, raise the priority of directshow above mpeg1. See is that's enough in your situation.

hmm, ok i don't think i'm going to be able to get tmpgenc to use the m2v files, so is there anyway program which i can use to convert the m2v files to m1v. sorry for being a major pain in the ass, but then i guess thats what n00bs do

thanks for being kind

Did you see my note about the priority of directshow ? Did you try ?

Else you don't need to convert the file: you can use DGIndex to generate a D2V file from the m2v (there is a plugin for tmpgenc to read d2v). And better : learn also how to use avisynth.

Basically using a m2v or a Vob is quite the same. So read a guide about how to convert a DVD !
