KDVD: best way to encode the mpeg-2 sound file?

im messing around with high definition mpg-2 codings and am curious what would be the best way to encode the sound file. i want 5 channel surround capability, i use besweet for sound transcoding, and advice would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

Unfortunally, no free tool can encode a decent ac3 stream. The best is to keep your source.

what if your source is a wav? in case an xvid file (divx) whatever and sound ripped out into a wav file format. should i encode it to ac-3? and then mux? or just stick to mp2?

mp2 (or AC-3 2.0 that Besweet can do correctly).
