So you mean that I shouldn't care about how good the DVD player is in order to get good audio quality?

That's exactly what I said. All the work is done by the amp. I put on the side the quality of data tracking and jitter of the SAP as this is common to both DVD video and CD audio - if the player is bad, it is bad in any cases - and because we a going there in some "audio geeks" area with playes that cost muito dinheiro :)

Any extra advise regardless of the above?
Yes : a chinese Divx player is often better than the first price model of a well known brand that doesn't even support divx. Thinks about that.
I'm as pleased by my chinese Divx player bought 49€ than my DVD only Pioneer a I bought 230€ (except that the video quality of the pioneer is far better for DVDs but I buy a well known model in this area).
They both read ANYthing a give to them, included non-standard things like 480x480 KDVD streams authored as DVD !

Meaning, if it were you on my shoes what SAP would you buy?
A Divx chinese player < 50€ if you don't plan to buy a big flat plasma screen in the next future. Or a ~100/120€ model from Pioneer/LG/Sony/Toshiba, DVD only.

8O I thought I should stay away from those!
Not because they say "DIVX" but because they are said to have very low overall quality.

Well I can't afford paying 230€ for a player right now.
I'd go as far as 125/150€.

No plasma for the next...20 years or so .
No, I mean, right now they're >2500€ and I just bought a CRT 100Hz TV set for ~650€+150€ for the Sony tv stand  .
Bottom line, you'd go for a < 80€ chinese DVD/DIVX player instead of a 150€ Pioneer/LG/Sony/Toshiba DVD player?
Damn I really can't make up my mind even because there are not a lot of chinese brands here in PTG.
Can you name a few chinese brands you can find in France (or where you are living right now)?
Cheers

EDIT: anyone else can jump right in and give their advise on a good and not too expensive player ;)

Hi Rui,

I bought an LG 9843K for 49 € (in radio popular) and I'm quite happy with it:

- Video quality is great (DVD and DIVX) in fact, in matter of quality of DIVX, is the best player I have seen.
- Forums to upgrade firmware exists in the net (I allready upgrade mine)
- Accept CD-R/-RW DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW
- DIVX all versions with subtitles (SRT,SUB,TXT,...)
- DVD / DIVX / MPEG / MP3 / PHOTO-CD / JPEG slide show / etc
- till now, it read all the media I put in

Cheers
