KVCD came out distorted

After converting the M1V with TMPGEnc and multiplexing it with the MP2 audio, I went to play the movie to say how it turned out. To my surprise, it was very vertical. Is this how it's going to look in the TV or did I do something wrong while encoding. I used the 352 by 480 template.

You didn't do anything wrong, the DVD standalone will expand the picture correctly to 768x480 for display.
If you want to look at correcly on the PC, use a player where you can force the output aspect ratio (MPC, zoomplayer...) and for it to 4:3.

Ok. I opened it with VLC Media Player and put the aspect ratio to 4:3. Are the black lines on the left and right of the video normal. Sorry for such a noobish question. I'm brand new to the KVCD format right now.

All depends on the way you encoded them. We use to put a black border on the 4 sides when we use an avisynth script as source.
Explain a little what you did and may be post a snapshot.

Okay. Before discovering KVCD, I ripped my DVD to my computer and encoded it to Xvid (for back-up). After discovering KVCD though, I went looking for the DVD, but couldn't find it. So I demuxed the Xvid using VirtualDubMod to extract the audio (WAV) and video (AVI). Then I converted the WAV to MP2 using BeSweet and converted the AVI to M1V using TMPGEnc. Then I multiplexed the MP2 and M1V files to MPEG-1 Video-CD (non-standard). Could you explain or show me a guide on how to post a snapshot. Thanks in advance!

Note: I used the *KVCD-CQ-352x480-_NTSCFilm_-Plus* template to endcode the video.

And I'm an evoluted monkey that can speak

Let say that the borders you can see are normal then, as you simply used the template, so nothing can be wrong (just think about load the source THEN the template, in tmpgenc and not the opposite). Anyway you should try to burn it and look at on the TV.

To avoid borders... look for your DVD... harder

No seriously, I did lose the DVD. I don't feel like going to jail for downloading a movie.

So I should try loading the source FIRST then the template? Don't have any CDs to burn the video on right now and I don't feel like burning it on one of my expensive CDs.
