TMPGENC: mpeg video was blocky and a little too dark?

First I ripped the movie, From Duck Till Dawn, using DVD Decrypter. Then I made the D2V file with DVD2AVI, then after I encoded with TMPGENC, the picute was blocky and was a little too dark. Any idead on what I did wrong?

Okay Paul,
I think several times on this forum it has been said that you do not save as an avi in DVD2avi, because the quality is bad and it doesn't compress well for kvcd templates. You have to save it as a project and then put the d2v file into Tmpegnc. If there is still problems with blockiness then you nedd to raise the max bitrate to 1800 or 2300

Isn't Paul saying right here that he made a D2V file?

I said in my message CLEARLY that i made a D2V file and not an avi file
