TiVo to DVD - Washed out video when using TMPGenc?

Hi All:

I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a problem I have been experiencing when using TMPG (v2.57.41.146) to encode video.

The Problem:
Video encoded with TMPG (using KVCD templates) appears washed out. By that I mean that it is like some one has turned up the gamma (brightness) setting on your monitor. Color is faded, etc. The original MPEG file looks nice and dark, full of color.

Original Video Source:
Extracted video off of a TiVo PVR. (Video=MPEG2, 544x480, VBR 5800 Audio= 32Khz, 192 bit)

Conversion:
Audio is converted to 48Khz, 128 bit using BeSweet into a multiplexed MPEG.

Editing:
Using MPEG-VCR to edit MPEG2 file and scan for MPEG GOP (and other) errors.)

TMPG settings:
Using any KVCD template causes the "washed-out" video to appear, regardless of bitrate, resolution, etc. (I have tried downsampling to 352x480 and upsampling to 720x480 with the same results.)

I can "work-around" the problem by using the gamma filter, but it reduces the quality significantly. BTW, using the DVD workshop converted file doesn't have the "washed-out" problem.

Thanks for *ANY* information you can provide.

Hi ewodzien,

Check the "Output YUV data as Basic ....." under the "Quantize Matrix" in TMPEG. Try that.

Thank you KWAG for the prompt reply!

Unfortunately that didn't help.

Further information: I am using the
KVCD-LBR-11-12-2002-352x240-_NTSCFilm_-PLUS.mcf
template with the following mods:

Audio: 128Kbs, 48KHz
Output: 29.97fps, interlaced

I would be grateful for any other ideas on what it might be.

Thanks!

Have you tried SansGrip's LegalClip? Read here: http://www.jungleweb.net/~sansgrip/a...ip-readme.html

It could also be due the msyuv.dll file which doesn't seem to work correctly. I deleted the file from my System folder and have not had this problem since. See some earlier posts, this may have been discussed before. If you try to delete this file under Win XP, you'll have to go to safe mode command prompt or Windows will reload the file all the time.
