240 Minutes of video with KVCD template?
...you're going to have to add a new forum called "240 Minutes of video with KVCD template" kwag
|
Hey SansGrip,
I hope that's on 1 CD of course  Quote:

Because right now the original 180 minute template looks like a VCD, so maybe at 240 minutes, it will look like the original LBR   -kwag |

yeah ,i want it too! 8O |
Actually I think it's time for me to change all GOPs in all templates with the updated 1-12-2-1-24 ( Actually 1-5823-2-1-24  )
This GOP just completely blew apart the old GOPs. If I got "The Green Mile" looking the way it does in a single CD, and that movie is not 16:9 8O It's higher, then could it really mean that the actual LBR with the new parameteres could be rated as 240 minutes "Convenience/lower quality for portables" template and named SLBR and the actual LBR could be upgraded to "180 minute near VCD quality" :?: And no, I'm not kidding 8O, but the thing is I don't have a 240 minute wide screen movie to test it on  Any volunteers  Edit: I actually meant that the new LBR could be rated 240 minutes "Lower quality convenience template for portables" or 180 minutes "Near VCD quality" -kwag |

Edit: I just watched a piece of my commercial "The Matrix" VCD in my PC, and HELL 8O , "The Green Mile" looks about the same, and less blocky 8O 8O . Is that what you mean by if I had tried it on a TV :?: -kwag |

By tried it on a TV I kinda meant, tried it on a TV . I find a big difference between my monitor and my TV set, not just in sharpness but also luminosity. My TV set de-emphasizes artifacts that are fairly clear on the monitor. Mind you, I have a very good monitor ;). |

don't know if you have it kwag, but to test the 240 min template you could do LOTR FOTR Extended version thats about 3 and a half hours.
edit: I would gladly test it out, is it as simple as rip movie process through dvd2avi then encode it? or would you recomend the avs script? if so u'll have to tell me what to do. |

Actually, we just need to encode one Wide Sceen movie of no more that two hours, with a target of 400MB instead of 800MB. Then we take a look and see what it looks like. If it does look at least like the original LBR, then we know it's the 240 minute LBR and not the 180 minute LBR :D I'll try that today  -kwag |
I just finished encoding a test sample run on "K-Pax", target for 400MB.
The result is ....... Crap :D The quality curve just drops off at that low bit rate. So the LBR max time is still 180 minutes, but actually looks MUCH better than the original LBR. For 240 minutes on a CD, well, maybe in a year or so with new techniques :D Still, with all the new stuff that's been done, the LBR now should look just like a VCD with wide screen movies up to ~180 minutes. And that is really cool :D I also believe that with the new methods developed, just about any movie can be put on 2 CDs at 704x480 or with the x3, with quality as equal to the source. To do that with standard SVCDs, would probably take ~4 CD's, and won't look as good because of the lower resolution. -kwag |
the movie encoded at 704x480 for 2cds; would there be any difference in quality if I done a movie via dvd2avi then through tempgenc than to do the movie with avs script?

Hi
Speaking of long movies... You could try "Woodstock the director's cut", both sides in a single CD... that's almoust 4 hours :) |

New Temp & GOP
I noticed you updated the templates for the new GOP, but the scene change is still checked...
Should it be checked or unchecked? |

scene change
I am using 2.58, but I noticed when check or uncheck the detect scene change...
It does it for all the templates regardless of what you had checked when you saved the template... So once you uncheck the scene change all templates will use that setting... at least for TmpgEnc 2.58 |
Hi KingTuk,
Can you try something. Uncheck it, and then load any KVCD template. You should see it unchecked. -kwag |
check / uncheck
yes that option stays unchecked or checked once you set it...
no matter which template you use... But the problem is for new people installing TmpgEnc is that it is checked by default... So the first time you use TmpgEnc with any of the templates you need to uncheck it and then it will stay unchecked... |
 I guess I missed that page in the "Crap" threat...
Why do we uncheck "Detect Scene Change" ? |
Quote:
Detect Scene Change inspects the material as it encodes it and, if it thinks a frame is dissimilar enough from the previous one, will insert an I-frame at that point. While TMPGEnc usually gets it right, for a long movie there might be many frames it thought were scene changes but in fact weren't. This leads to more I-frames than is necessary, and since I frames are much bigger than P- or B-frames (10-20kb instead of 2-8kb) this makes for a bigger resulting encode. The positive side of Detect Scene Change is that it theoretically results in higher quality, but the size trade-off probably isn't worth it. It also makes prediction harder, since TMPGEnc won't necessarily use a whole GOP to encode each sample but will instead insert new I-frames here and there. This could throw off the prediction by quite a lot. |
the cd technology is changing soon we may be able to get about six hours of video using lbr on the same cds we are using now
http://www.digital-sanyo.com/BURN-Proof/HD-BURN/ but the problems with the technology are that they arent read by cd-rom drives but are read by a dvd-rom drive with a firmware update but i would have to update my dvd player with a new firmware or have to buy a new dvd player to play this hopefully it will catch on it looks very promising to get 4 hours using all other templates or if u must 30 minutes of dvd standard video i hope u like this it looks good |
