Q-Level?

can anybody tell me what exactly is the Q-Level in an MPEG Stream?
I downloaded BitRate Viewer and I'm going to run some more tests with it...

In simple words:
That is the Quantization level. The lower the value (the closer to the bit rate curve), means less compression and higher quality. The higher the value, the more compression is being done, and worse quality.

well then...
For the same filesize and same length of the clip it is better to have a higher Q-Level right?
because my eyes are just not good enough to see those little artifacts... :oops:
so could i use bitrate viewer for this purpose?

No, the other way around. If you compare two clips of the same size, the one than has the lower Q is the one with the highets quality.

You might not notice a difference between two clips with different Q levels visually, that is if the Qs are both low. It's only at a point where you start to see the degradation visually.
