am i the only one left using kVCD 352x480...?

am i narrow minded grandpa, or am i scared of change and new things...

IMO, in regards to 1 CD encodes, i can only succeed with the good ole kVCD. dont get me wrong, in not bashing on all your guys' hard work, i just havent been able to create a better visualy looking poduct than from what i get by using the standard template.

i absolutely commend all you users, creaters, and testers for helping construct the best form of compatible compression so far to this date. thank you!!! im just wondering if i have any sort of argument here, or if i have anyone else who sees it this way?

anyway, keep up the great work everyone! it is amazing what is happening here at this website. glad to be on the wagon... take care!

I've so far made 1-disc encodes at 352x480, 528x480 and 704x480. I think my favourite is probably 528x480 -- I find it very close indeed in quality to the 704x480 but the slightly higher CQ_VBR makes for fewer artifacts on those longer movies.

I find 352x480 quite soft compared to the higher-resolution templates. That said, it's still a vast improvement on regular VCD :).

So far the longest movie I've backed up to 1 disc is Untouchables, 1h59m.

K-19. 2 hours, 18 minutes on one CD with KVCDx3 (528x480). Looks damn good! :D

Interesting. I've been putting movies under two hours on a single CD with the 352x480 template, and longer movies onto a single CD with the 352x240 template. I really thought 528x480 was too much for single-CD movies, but guess I'll have to experiment now :)

KWAG,

are you using mpeg1 or 2? i wonder if SANSGRIP's filters work better in conjunction with CQ_VBR. maybe that is why i am more pro temporal smoother and the standard kVCD.

now i have to experiment more. damn you all!!! j/k... thanks.

2 hours on 352X480 ?!!! I tried the LBR with Chitty Bang Bang which is 2 hrs and 24 minutes and it looked really blocky and noisy, but I think it was because its full screen. I just got ecks vs. sever so I'll try that.

I'd never use a 16:9 aspect ratio with a movie that long!
It just gives it away that it isn't going to fit on one CD.

Have you modified the LBR template at all?
It looks damn good with what I've made.
