KVCD: get a really bad picture?
 

Iv`e encoded the same movie about 5 times and still get a really bad picture. On any movement the picture blurs around it. I`ve only managed to get a decent picture once but the file came at 1.3gigs. Iv`e tried to split it on 2 cd`s using bbmpeg but can`t even get to load into it. I`ve tried filters aswell. The original file is an avi which has been direct stream copied. The film is 2 hours and 40 mins and i`m using the 180mins template. Can someone please help. Maybe i`m using the wrong avisynth script, this is the script i`m using

I have used other scripts posted in the forums but they have the same results. I`m new to adding filters so if this script is wrong could someone post one that I could try or tell me what i`m doing wrong. Thanx in advance.

Have you tried processing a .d2v DVD rip instead of the .avi you're trying to encode? Just to be sure the problem is not your source :!:

Kwag it could be that the source is a avi file and not a dvd to avi file done by himself.

The original source file is an avi. The file is perfect quality. Don`t think it could be the source as managed to convert it to kvcd but it came out at 1.3gig but the quality was ok.

Also when I convert it using KVCDx3 mpeg2 template the picture seems to be ok but it looks like it might have to go on 3 disc. Is there anyway to fit it on 2 disc?

While the source material might look good to the eye, an extremely large amount of crucial information has been discarded in the MPEG-4 encoding process. Not only that, but it's also gone through some serious preprocessing (resizing, smoothing, and goodness knows what else) to get it there.

Always use as good a source as you can get (DVD is only pretty good quality, HDTV caps are better, and DV is probably as good as it gets in the home market depending on the camera) for testing purposes.

What I'm saying is, a lot of the time you'll find that artifacts one assumes are caused by the re-encode to MPEG-1 are actually already present in the source. So always use the best quality source material for testing templates that are new to you.

So why does it come out ok when i use a different template?

well it should come out ok no matter what template you use. but when you rip the disc yourself and encode that file...DAMN!! 1 million times better than any avi file you'll find. especially star wars episode II.

I used the 180 mins template. And i`ve managed to encode a film but it came out at 1.3gig. The quality was ok but can`t understand why it came out ok at 1.3gig when at a smaller size it looks crap.
