KVCD: what settings for file prediction?
 

I am working on T2 and have been using the file prediction and all the temps, there are so many options to choose from, I was wondering if someone has already done this DVD to KVCD yet and what the method was. 1 disc would be great but it does not seem too possible since the movie is 156 min. I want nice quality, I would not mind a 2 dic method for great looking and great sounding movie..............

I recently put a 2h20m movie on one disc with CQ mode at 528x480, so you might just get it on there. I used 112kbps audio, but you might want to go down even more, so make sure you use HeadAC3he.

In that case, go with 528x480 CQ. You should have great quality video with that, and you can jack the audio bitrate up to 160 or even higher.

what temp and settings?
 

do you remember what temp and what settings you used? the KVCDx3 has the 528x480, do I change the min & max for CQ to anything and what about the quality settings 50, 60, 70 or what? and we are talking QC not QC-VBR right? MPEG 1 or 2?

x3 template, 528x480 MPEG-1. CQ 39.8, min 400 max 2500, 0 spoilage for P and B.

Bear in mind that how much you can compress the movie depends a great deal on its aspect ratio. If it's Cinemascope (2.35:1, very wide screen) it'll compress a lot more than 16:9. 4:3 -- i.e. fullscreen -- movies compress the least.

the one im doing is the special edition {15-20 extra min of unseen footage}at 16:9 I am very close, but no cigar yet, Ill try your settings and see what I get, thanx again, I'll be back! because I am gonna try Pearl Harbor next, never tried a movie that is 2 DVD's to start with.....anyway I'll let you know what I come up with.....

If your standalone can handle it, drop the min bitrate down to 300. Also remember that the CQ value I used almost certainly won't produce the right file size for your movie. You'll need to use file size prediction to figure out the right CQ to use.

600 is what my APEX660 craves.
 

yeah, I need to up the min to 600 for it to act right, 300 fast forwards and skips. but upping it to 600 brings the files size up a lot. a lot of tweaking is needed to get this on to work out right, this is the longest movie I have done to date, I have no problem getting most of them on 1 disc with nice quality, but this one is killing me, im not sure if I even wnat to try Pearl Harbor or LOTR.............

Well, it's a different movie ;). To be honest I'm not confident you'll get 2h35m of 16:9 at 528x480 on one disc. If you really want it on one disc, try the LBR template. If not, go with 528x480 on two discs.

yeah, it seems a bit tough to get it right, I thought maybe someone here may have done it, I am fine with a movie of this length to be on 2 discs, so I will go with what you said earlier and use the x3 temp, it has a nice quality for 2 cd's, thanx sans for your help.........
