KVCD: KVCDx3 resolution?

Hello everybody, I'm a newbie, and even if i read a lot in these forums there's still one thing that's not so clear for me. Please forgive me if it is TOO obvious :) ..
Anyway, I'm making a lot of experiments with the KVCD templates, and finally I tried the famous KVCDx3, that seems to have very good results, but I can't understand this: the default resolution for PAL is 528x576. How can I deal with it? I mean, burning as VCD gives me a stretched image, and the same happens if I burn as SVCD. Well, I probably made an overdose of information here in the last few days, and I must have lost something obvious.. :)

By the way, is it a good idea to use the KVCDx3 template AND change the resolution to 352x288? The first tests seem VERY VERY GOOD, I managed to pump up the CQ to 80 on a very very problematic movie with apparently very good quality and very good size. I'll have the final result this evening..

Thanks

if you play a KVD on dvd, the video aspect is ok. :D

For 352x288 resolution, you use the KVCD 352x288 (lbr) templates.

Actually, I played it on my DVD player, and the image WAS stretched.. Could it be because the vcd I created had different tests with different resolutions?

And about the 352x288.. I don't want to use the KVCD 352x288 (lbr) templates, the quality is too bad, very much better the KVCD-plus for that purpose, but I found that using KVCDx3 gives me a far better quality while reducing filesize, and "apparently" there's no problem resizing the template.. of course the doubt was about that "apparently" if you know what I mean.. ;)

Hi noize,

You're using the incorrect aspect in TMPEG. Use FitCD and process your files with it. :)
Read about FitCD in the forum.

hello Kwag

Well, I actually used FitCD! I used the avs it created as video source in tmpeg. Then I loaded the KVCDx3 template and created a vcd from that. The mpeg was good, it only had tall bars on top and bottom, but in the vcd the image was stretched! The problem must be somewhere else.

By the way, would you explain me why it's wrong to change the resolution in tmpeg? What problems can it cause?

Thanks a lot!!

Hi noize,

If you used FitCD, did you set "Video arrange method" to "Full screen" :?:
If you did, then you should post your .avs script to see what's going on. If you didn't set it to "Full screen", then that's the problem.

:D I was going to mention that, but I'm not sure if someone starting to use FitCD and KVCD encodings is ready to tackle .avs editing

Hi Kwag

Well, I remember to have set the "Video arrange method" to "Full screen", but it was probably the millionth encoding test I was making, so I maybe forgot it.. ;)
I'll check it out as soon as I get home from work... :D

And hi to SansGrip, too!

About GripFit.. It looks very interesting, and I think I could use it effectively, but of course I'd like the simplest method for now...

Thank you very much for your support, I'll let you know how it will ends..

Just one more thing, and I repeat a previous question: "would you explain me why it's wrong to change the resolution in tmpeg (letting all the other KVCDx3 settings unchanged)? What problems can it cause?"

Lol, noize should be aware of SansGrip's filters, especially FluxSmooth! Or he'll wake up dead one morning...

There's nothing wrong with that, but if you take for example the KVCDx3 and change the resolution to 704x480 or 352x480, you'll be doing exactly the same thing as if you had loaded those templates :D
All KVCD PLUS and x3 share exactly the same GOP and matrix. Only the KVCD 352x240 PLUS sets the MAX bit rate to 1,800Kbps and the LBR sets MAX to 1,150Kbps. Above 352x240, they're set to MAX=2,500Kbps. Everything else is the same

Now I see the light!! ;)

GripFit is the solution

:D To get correct aspect ratios, set TMPGENC to center and let GripFit do the work.. it really works like magic to me!!! Forget FitCd for rezising, although it could save you from writing some lines in your avs script... only replace the resize and addborders parts in the generated script and you'll set...

noize 01-14-2003 05:36 PM

hi everybody

The problem is solved: in TMPEG I initially set "Video arrange method" to "Full screen (keep aspect ratio)", that gave me the streched image. Switching to simple "Full screen" actually did the trick..

Thank you all for your support, and I think I gotta check that GripFit one of these days.. :D
