PLEASE HELP ME!! I beg info. on *.AVI to your KVCD

KWAG,

thanks for your help! :wink: I will give it a try :)

AmericanKickboxer 04-03-2003 08:02 PM

hey! I am back again! Thank you for your help and support but i have another qeustion i am kind of stumped about.. :(
Okay, i have converted my vcd under TMPGenc and burned through a software program called Ulead's Moviefactory (authoring). I went to play my new kvcd on the player but after a while, the video would freeze for a second and audio would keep going... :?: Then the video would "fast forward" itself to catch up...

:?: ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WUT COULD BE WRONG :?:

THANX :)

AmericanKickboxer 04-03-2003 08:20 PM

i have two more questions :oops: .. I am converting a computer *.AVI file that is 352x240 resolution? what would be a good resolution for playing it on a dvd player, without lookin like a blown up computer image thats all blocky and...pixely?
my 2nd qeustion is when i encode to the mpeg-1 in TMPGenc, would i need to "write a script"? what is the point in doing this?

LOTZA THANX TO YOU ALL :D

Try burning your mpeg with VCDEasy or FireBurner.

-kwag

AmericanKickboxer 04-03-2003 09:26 PM

wow, are you serious? so your template automatically changes it?? :D thaz awsome! but which template to use? :?

kwag 04-03-2003 09:30 PM

You have to burn as "Non-standard" VCD. All KVCD templates are non-standard, and you probably burned as VCD. I only use VCDEasy to burn, because I can also create the original DVD chapters on my KVCDs. This is not possible with Nero, and I assume it's not possible with MovieFactory either.

okay, ill try VCDeasy I read lots of good things about it, but can you make menu's and navigation buttons and things on VCDeasy?

AmericanKickboxer 04-03-2003 09:34 PM

Okay, thanks, thats what i needed to know! :wink:

P.S. sry for so many questions, i didnt expect you to write back so soon! :D

No. You do that with any other authoring program, and then use VCDEasy to burn and create your chapters. Read here: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic....302&highlight=

hi,

1:oops: so for an originally 352x240 .AVI, i would get

which one of your templates?? (theres alot)

2 when i load a template using TMPGenc, it sets my stream type to

encode 'ES VIDEO ONLY', but i want to encode both, and with the

same AVI source...what should I do, anybody???

AmericanKickboxer 04-04-2003 04:18 PM

Is anybody there? :? .. :)

I'd use the 352x240 standard template or the 352x240 LBR if it's a long AVI.

It's better to encode the audio seperately but if you want TMPGenc to do it just select system (audio+video) and select your source file for the audio.

AmericanKickboxer 04-04-2003 06:13 PM

ok, thanx, i made up my mind though, that i am going to seperate them

beacause of qaulity and stuff i hear about :)

i posted a help under the virtualdub forum, can u take a look?

thanx ! :mrgreen:

rendalunit 04-04-2003 06:31 PM

You won't regret it, audio encoded with Headac3he sounds way better than TMPG

Locutus 04-27-2003 07:36 PM

Hi this is my first posting and I have the following problem:
I have a file ("Taken [05] Maintenance-FoV.xvid" ,xvid,ntsc with 23,976 frames/s, 576x320, 16:9, 86 minutes long, 711MB big).
And I spend at least 50 hours of encoding time, but I was never satisfied with wthat I got. Eather the sound was complete out of sync, the picture was really crappy or the file either too big or too small.
I tried many guides but nothing really worked out, so this is a real cry for help!
What template should I use, what script would be best?
Please help :D

jorel 04-27-2003 08:00 PM

hi Locutus,welcome :wink:

did you read the guide from the first page of this thread?

http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic....85b2746526b41a

take it easy, you will got the solution!
:)

Locutus 04-27-2003 09:07 PM

Yes I tried that guide...but what I got didn`t work out for me :cry:
That's why I asked for help!
I don`t want to annoy anyone by asking the same questions that get postet here over and over, I just need hekp in this special case.

Locutus 04-28-2003 09:58 AM

Ok I startet all over with the guide on the first page of this thread:
This is the script I made:

#================================================= ====#
# -= AviSynth script by MovieStacker v2.0.0 (beta) =- #
#================================================= ====#

LoadPlugin("O:\umwandeln\kvcd2\plugins und dlls\MPEG2Dec.dll")
LoadPlugin("O:\umwandeln\kvcd2\plugins und dlls\STMedianFilter.dll")
LoadPlugin("O:\umwandeln\kvcd2\plugins und dlls\GripFit_preview.dll")
LoadPlugin("O:\umwandeln\kvcd2\plugins und dlls\DustV5.dll")
LoadPlugin("O:\umwandeln\kvcd2\plugins und dlls\UnFilter.dll")
LoadPlugin("O:\umwandeln\kvcd2\plugins und dlls\LegalClip.dll")

AviSource("N:\movies\Taken [05] Maintenance-FoV.xvid.avi")
LegalClip()
GripCrop(480, 480, overscan=2, source_anamorphic=false)
GripSize(resizer="BicubicResize")
STMedianFilter(10, 50, 8, 10, 10, 50)
FaeryDust()
UnFilter(25, 25)
TemporalSmoother(3, 2)
MergeChroma(blur(1.58))
MergeLuma(blur(0.2))
GripBorders()
LegalClip()

But with that I get annoying borders on the left and right side.
How do I get rid of them?

PyRoMaNiA 04-28-2003 10:11 AM

If you really want to get rid of the borders, remove the overscan=2 bit from your GripCrop line. Those borders won't show up on a TV though, so if you plan on viewing this on a TV, you should leave them in.

Hi all,

I've just started to do my 1st divx2kvcd, and went through the guide ok.

I've finished the encoding, burnt to CD and plays and looks superb on my Phillips Q50 DVD player!! But in ToK i kept the settings as MPEG1 - VCD, should i do MPEG2 - SVCD? surely this will be better quality correct?

What i would like to also know is how do i go about converting a movie with the new skvcd template using this method?

Thanks for the great guides and help on this site, much appreciated!

look forwards to a response

Not necesarily :!: MPEG-1 looks better than MPEG-2 at low bit rates.

All the templates share the same Q. Matrix and GOP (except the KDVD templates). Just select 352x480 in ToK and select MPEG-2. This will be the same as if you chose SKVCD template manually 8)

TheDJ 05-12-2003 05:27 PM

Hi kwag, thx for your reply & info ,very much appreciated!

I'm absolutely buzzng from these conversions, PC's doing overtime! lol :lol:

I noticed on my 1st converion the movie came out full screen, how would i go about making a nice widescreen version (16:9) please?

Also for the skvcd setting in tok, after selecting mpeg2 & Res., do i then select svcd or vcd.

Cheers

Hi there,
can anyone give me a web site which has free movie for download (movie trailer is good enough), I want to have a test on the converting method and see if I can do it correctly before paying for whole movie download. Thanks in advance!

Kwag,
It is all VOB files, VirtualDub does NOT support VOB, right? May be I did not make it clear, I want Mpeg-4 sample file. Thanks!

TheDJ 05-13-2003 05:25 AM

One other thing kwag,

i burnt the movie last night using nero, burnt fine and played ok except for the movie kept freezing now n then which did spoilt viewing. What would u advise on doing please? I burnt on my drives maximum speed (x16) , maybe i should try lowering it, wot do u think?

No!, Vdub_MPEG-2_AC3 Mod does support MPEG-2 (VOBs, etc.)

Have you burned the KVCD compatibility CD, to fiind out what resolutions work on your player :idea:

-kwag

TheDJ 05-13-2003 09:57 AM

Hi kwag, thx will give the kvcd compatability CD a go.

One other thing m8, i tried extracting the audio from an xvid using virutaldub and came up with an error message saying: no decompressor found? Was fine with previous movie?

Also, i found that NTSC KVCD's play better on my DVD than the PAL KVCD, so will probably go for ntsc. How do i configure it to make NTSC's?

Cheers

I've tested most templates, they all freeze in parts during movie play back on dvd player, i dont know what to do??

I was also a bit confused with the black prince guide for divx to vcd. I wanted to make a skvcd, but was puzzled with the templates in moviestacker, and couldnt locate which one was for skvcd? I did try selecting svcd in main page on moviestack, but wasnt sure if this would work?!

I have just done a divx to vcd, and was upset with quality, very blurry and blocky :cry: I wasnt sure where i went wrong?

The divx video info:

res: 608 x 320
fps: 23.976

Heres my script;

GripCrop(352, 240, overscan=1, source_anamorphic=false)

yes vdub does support vobs but it has to be through d2v file linked in a avs script.

Not with VirtualDub-MPEG2 v1.5.1 :!:
You can open VOBs directly with this version. Get it here: http://es.geocities.com/dextstuff/

I'm not on about mod version kwag, I have v1.5.2.0 of the normal vdub and it opens avs scripts linked to a d2v file and opens fine. I didn't know there was a new version of vdub so haven't tried it, I will d/l it and see.

@ Kwag..

Are there any OTHER divX movie/trailer D/L's around that you might know
about ??

..cause, the link you supplied, gives me a "page cannot display" error,
even when I "refresh" as they suggest.

I would really appreciate any GOOD links you or anyone else here can
provide me, but if not, not to worry about it 8)

Thanks guys :D
