Kvcd to Dvd - must the video stream be mpeg2?

Just curious, if I have encodes a movie to 352 x 288 mpeg1 with a valid dvd GOP and done the audio at 48 khz is it possible to use this in the creation of a dvd eg: put several on a disc, or must the video stream be mpeg2?

Hi urban tec,

352x288 MPEG-1 is DVD compliant. As long as the GOP is no larger than 15 for PAL or 18 for NTSC, and I believe the bit rate must not exceed ~1,800Kbps.

Kwag,
Have you ever actually done this cos the couple of dvd authoring poggies I have used will only accept mpeg 2.

Is it a case of fooling the authoring prog into thinking it is mpeg2?

Hi urban tec,

No, I haven't tried this. But it is clearly defined in the DVD specifications. If you can't import the file, the problem is the DVD authoring program

Thanks Kwag I will do some more investigation.

Update:

I found an authoring software that accepts m1v format Spruceup
unfortunately it is no longer supported.

This does however answer my question about putting dvd compliant mpeg1 on dvd's.
