BIG disparity between TMPGenc preview and finished product!

Any thoughts on this?

oh yeah, I found this too. I done a test cap from digital satalite the other night, put it through tmpgenc, the preview look sweet but when I checked the burned version it was nothing like the preview picture it was very blocky.

@andybno1 and Reno,

The best way to determine how your picture quality will finally
look is to encode a 30 or 60 second clip and test it on your
DVD player. I use WinDVD on my PC and view sample clips
all the time. I look for artifacts, blockiness, Gibbs noise, etc.
Tmpgenc preview is misleading, since the view area is small
and doesn't show the problems when enlarged on a standard
TV screen. I pick sample clips with some or all of the following,
high action, water, fire, smoke and dark scenes (shows artifacts)
These are difficult for an encoder to get right. If these types of
scenes look good the most likely the entire movie will look great. :)

I now think this is heavily dependent on GOP structure. How dependent is a little over my thick head :)

One should note that the bitrate settings don't have an effect on the preview.
Directly from tmpeng plus manual.
