put kvcd files onto my primary partition?
 

First off guys, please excuse these silly newbie ???'s :oops: :dunce: , but...well...I am a newbie! And there's a few things I'd like to know before I get started.

*In case it'll help, I should mention I'm running Windows XP Home, P4 2.26GHz 533MHz Bus/512KB L2 cache, and have an 80GB 7200rpm hard-drive split into four NTFS partitions.

• 1) Should I put all the programs used in the manual kvcd process onto my primary partition with my OS and other various programs, or can I install them onto their own separate partition? (aside from Avisynth, which I know goes onto the "C" drive). Would doing so create any problems? (for example: would TMPG function properly on the "E" drive if I have PowerDVD installed on drive "C"...or would DVDdecryptor and VCDEasy be able to locate the aspi-layer on the "C" drive so they'd work right?..etc).
  
  2) Can I put all the programs into the same folder, or might this cause any problems? In other words, the folder\subfolder pathnames would look like "C:\kvcdPrograms\Dvd2avi\Dvd2avi.exe", etc. Is this okay? I've read that long pathnames and/or strange characters can lead to problems for some programs.
  
  3) After I unzip Headac3he, since I have a P4, I should also download the SSE2-optimized .DLL's from Dark Avenger's page, correct? After unzipping these .DLL's to the Headac3he folder, should I delete the other default .DLL's that were included with the program? Or should I just leave them in there? Same question regarding BBMPEG's XP-Patched .DLL...do I need to delete the original .DLL that comes with BBMPEG, or do I just leave that in the folder along with the XP-Patched .DLL?
  
  4) Should I use Tom Barry's mpeg2dec2.dll in Avisynth instead of Dividee's mpeg2dec.dll since it is P4-optimized? Will this produce significant results/benefits on my system? Are there any known issues or limitations with it? Should I delete the mpeg2dec.dll then, or leave it in the folder?

Thanks for the help guys. I know I'll undoubtedly have more questions along the route :roll: :) , but at least I'll hopefully start off on the right foot this way! (which conveniently leaves me the left foot for inserting into my mouth...or kicking myself in the butt with). :wink:

• Doesn't matter. You can install the programs anywhere it's more convenient for you.

  Yes, sometimes long path names cause problems with some programs. I put all my programs in drive C:, and all my VOB's and rips in drive K:, which is an external 80GB USB 2.0, drive.

  The dlls have the same name, so I believe you'll overwrite the old ones.

I use mpeg2dec.dll. I remember I tried mpeg2dec2 but didn't notice a difference. :D

question:if you have multiple drives that all operate within the same parameters ( as opposed to a new "fast" HD and an old 6 gig) would you suggest storing the input files on one drive and writing the output on other?

For encoding it probably wouldn't make much difference, since the operation is predominantly CPU-bound. For IO-bound operations like muxing and converting from .mpg to .bin, I always use different source and destination drives (in fact, they're even on separate channels). It speeds things up quite a bit.
