KVCD: how do i keep the exact aspect ratio of the dvd?

Hi all

i have a query. When i do a dvdrip how do i keep the exact aspect ratio of the dvd? cause when i use a template in tmpegenc i seem to lose about an inch of movie from the sides. Is there a way around this?
