KVCD: Non-smooth playback of scrolling movies?

Hi,
If I have a movie where the background is scrolled, for instance the camera is turned through a panorama, I notice that after conversion the playback is not smooth: it 'stutters'. It looks like the background moves slowly, then jumps quickly, etc, with a period of 1 second approx.
In low-motion scenes I cannot see this (but it might be there).
This is both when I playback on my dvd player or with media player on the PC. I use standard KVCD(x2, x3) templates.
I varied the buffer size between 0-100, the bitrate. Nothing helps.
Any ideas? Does it have to do with the GOP structure?

Thanks,
Wouter

Hi wouter,

I think that's a frame rate problem. You probably encoded at 23.976 with the template, but your source is not 23.976. Or you encoded a movie without IVTC'ing it.

No, I did check the frametrate with virtualdub: 23.976, and used a NTSCfilm template. IVTC is something I never used, I always have DivX sources so I guess these are not interlaced??
