KVCD: File Size Fluctuates Big Time!
 

Hi kwag and others!

A couple of days ago I finished encoding a backup of Signs, with FaeryDust and Convolution3d... the movie is 102 min. long and I used KVCDx3 (CQ at 71)... The results were just awesome... I couldn't distinguish the copy from the original.
Today I tried to do the same thing, with the movie "Murder By Numbers" which is only 10 minutes longer... The result is just crap! I use the same settings, and even with a CQ of 65 the movie still won't fit on one CD-R... It's not a high action movie at all... Do you have any idea why filesize fluctuates so much??

Edit: To Specify My question... How come some movies look crap at a certain average bitrate, and others (using the same settings and filters) look great at that average bitrate?

Signs it´s a dark movie, so it´s easy to compress and get a smaller size, but if I remeber Murder by Numbers it´s a normal movie, so the filesize bigger it´s normal.

Another movie easy to compress it´s Matrix, very dark movie and generates a small file if compared with other movies with the same lenght.

Also try this time the prediction formula, I once changed the CQ value from a movie and finished with an increase of ~100 MB ( CQ changed from 79 to 80 )... 8O

Are both sources DVD or DivX, or is one DivX and the other DVD :?:

It's both DVD Source... could really be that it's the brightness of the movie...

I don't get it... I'm totally not satisfied with the quality... Artifacts around faces (due to the low CQ level...), and flashing blocks in the backgrounds... Well I just didn't expect this movie to be such a pain...
could a lousy authored DVD, be the reason for blocks (and I mean big moving blocks...) in the encoded file? I did notice a lot of noise on the DVD, when viewed on the computer... but I thought faerydust removes that kind of noise... :cry:
