KVCD: Changing resolution on templates?

Is there a major problem with changing the default KVCDx3 (mpeg-2) template resolution to 480x480 (or 480x576 for PAL) in order to decrease final file size for SVCD?

I did some test encoding and it seemed that the quality didn't suffer much but file size went down significantly (avi source).

Thanks. :D

No, there isn't a problem changing the resolution depending on the television you are watching...

Naturally, the higher the resolution the better the movie will look and the more space it will take up.

You probably don't notice a difference if you are watching on a smaller television, but watch the movie on your computer or HDTV and you sure can tell a difference in the resolutions.

That's why the KVCDX3 template is the best for quality and size to backup your movies to CD's and still look great on an HDTV :)

But my player doesn't accept kvcdx3 (even @528 or 544).
So i have to encode @480x576 to keep sharp picture.

Btw 1 question : is it better to encode @352x576 with sharpen filter like blockbuster or @480x576 ?

Actually, I tested the quality of all movies on my 53 inch rear projection Sony TV, so it wasn't a small TV issue.

Thanks for the info though!

You'll get sharper picture at 480x576 without the need to use sharpen filters :D
