Pinnacle InstantCopy

It even makes DVD->VCD :o
If it works as advertized, looks like DVD2ONE will have a short life span :roll: -kwag |

@All,
Seems there are two camps for backups, the 1:1 disc and movie only crowd. I'm interested in the movie only and the quick speed of DVD2one. But InstantCopy v7 does 1:1 and vcd backups. So far picture quality is just as good with DVD2one. The updates for DVD2one will be coming out in a few days and I hope they stay competive. This is an exciting horse race. :D -black prince |
Hi black prince,
Judging by the screenshots of the review by mb1 on the German site, InstantCopy seems to produce much better quality than DVD2ONE :!: I was able to download the demo, and I'm currently trying a DVD->VCD which will probably look like crap :lol: but I wanted to test it. Tomorrow I'll run a DVD backup and compare to one I did with DVD2ONE (S1M0NE) -kwag |

I was just commenting on the fact that dvd2one is 900kb or so and pinnacles file was 14mb, this was in response to the comment you made about the screengrabs. I supose what I am saying is pinnacle probably have a lot more money behind them so it may be a more refined product. I could also be talkin outa my hat :D :wavey: |
Hi urban tec,
Ok, now I got it. I guess I was too sleepy last night to understand :lol: BTW, I finally downloaded the demo, gave it a try on a DVD->VCD conversion and the result is: ........ IT SUCKS :mrgreen: The VCD quality is trash compared to TMPEG. So for DVD backup's, it's probably very good, but not for VCDs. I took a closer look at the screen shots on the review on the German site, and I really have to say that the advantage is so damn small compared to DVD2ONE, that DVD2ONE wins hands down. NOBODY is going to notice the diference, even on a HDTV. If you pause, then you'll probably be able to pick a detail here and there, but never on regular playback. Plus DVD2ONE is light years ahead on encoding speed compared to InstantCopy. Let's hope that the new version supports the complete menus. 8) -kwag |

I am suprised that some of these companies dont take more attention of the work you have done Kwag, cos basically you have just taken the time to test and play with the matrix in tmpg and the results speak for themselves. Surely the Pinnacles etc of this world have the ability to modify the matrix of the mpeg encoder they choose. I sure hope you get some financial reward out of al this in the end as the development you and other members have put into it is outstanding. When I tell my mates that these encodes are vcd they cant believe the quality :yippie: |

Hello Kwag First of all i must say i'm not interested in the menus and extras AT ALL, i'd only like to have a fast, simple way to back up my dvds with a good quality.. :P this is my experience: dvd2one made a VERY good work on some movies, but on one in particular it came out pure crap. the movie is "the shining", pal 4:3. result: blocks all over the place. tried the same movie with instantcopy, movie only, and the result is much much better. so i actually CAN see the difference on my 27" tv.. of course the source was not so good, and the 4:3 format is (maybe) more difficult to transcode, i think, but anyway, i can assure you the difference was BIG. so as soon as dvd2one will achieve a better quality, while retaining such a good speed, it will be the best. i mean, there MUST be something in between the 20 minutes needed by dvd2one and the 3+ hours istantcopy needs.. considering that in general the difference is not that big as it was in this particular movie. what do you think about it? regards, noize |

is blocky and poor. Fortunately, the majority of DVD movies are between 1hr 30min to 2hr 45min. I split DVD9 into 2 DVD5 when the movie is 3+ hours. I split the DVD manually, but wish I could get "DVDSplit". It dosen't seem to be available. :oops: I also found a manual way to cut the credits off the last VOB with dvd2avi and vstrip. I tested it and it works. DVD2one certainly as a niche use for now, but with updates it's sure to improve :) -black prince |
I tried dvd2one and pinnacle with the same movie, "we were soldiers" (2 h 20 min), and the result I look pinnacle is better than dvd2one: no vibration, no blocking
The main problem of pinnacle is the output size: less to 4.3 gb. :? |
Well, I did a test again, this time removing all audio, subtitles, and lowering the quality to minimum on all titles except #1 (Main Movie).
What can I say 8O. InstantCopy clearly looks better than the DVD2ONE I made yesterday :o The movie "The Bourne Identity" starts with a very dark scene in the sea at night. The blocks are MUCH visible with the DVD2ONE copy, but hardly visible with the InstantCopy :roll: I'm going to do "The Green Mile" with InstantCopy :idea: which is 3 hours long, and then I can really compare the results to my prevoius copy done with DVD2ONE a couple of weeks ago ( the same day DVD2ONE was released :D ) -kwag |
