Version 1.4 now support AVS scripts. I think it's time to make KDVD and KVCD templates for Mainconcept.

hey....completely new to kvcd.....my first post infact.....this is my normal routine....download an avi file....split it into two files.....convert both files into 352x240 resolution mpeg 1 files with Mainconcept......then burn those two files into 2 seperate discs using nero.....

Now i hear about burning a file into one cd and templates and avs and i am just lost.....i have a few questions....please help me...

Does KVCD sacrifice video quality?
What are cd templates, avs and how do i use them with Mainconcept 1.4?
How exactly do u make a 1-2 hours movie fit into one cd?
Can i play it in my vcd player?
Is it worth the trouble?
And again, does it harm the quality of the video (important)?

So please help me out....i am lost and confused :( ....pleaseee

^_^ I only do KDVDs. I don't do KVCDs since it has a compatibility problem with DVD and VCD players.

first you should start reading some guides, accessible at the frontpage of kvcd.net (right side).
I wouldn't use Mainconcept with such a low resolution and targeting for a (K)VCD. The advantage of Mainconcept is the impressive speed, TMPGEnc's quality is still superiour to the Mainconcept Encoder (mepg1). With high bitrates (greater 2000) Mainconcept is getting better, thats why its really good for KDVD's.

thanks....but mainconcept works fine for me....i dont know how but it works just like tmpgenc....i have seen some of the guides and again since i am a newbie i dont know what to do......can anyone give me links to simple guides.....and i still want to use mainconcept so how do i use kvcd with that.....is there a place where i can load settings??and i would like kwag's and hanslyuten input on this too....thanx

You won't get the quality we get with TMPEG with MCE.
MCE has problems with wide bitrate ranges. If you only make 352x240(288) resolutions, then it's fine. Above that, MCE can't properly allocate bitrate distribution for low/high bitrates. So TMPEG still has the edge, using CQ mode.

No. Templates are just that. "Templates" with different settings, to encode at different resolutions with different parameters. Look at TMPEG. It includes many templates.
avs is an AviSynth script.. Read here: www.avisynth.org
MCE templates (or configuration files) are different from the ones in TMPEG. I don't use MCE, so I can't tell you the details.Read about it in the "File Prediction" forum. That depends. Did you check your player, to see if it is in the compatibility list :?:

Remember we are re-encoding, so you'll never get the same quality as the original.
If you want to compare against other encodings (VCD, SVCD), then your answer is that you'll get better quality per media with KVCD techniques, than with any other "standard" VCD, SVCD encode.
