KVCD: Is there an idiot guide to 120min CD-r?

I have tried producing a 120min CD with little success. I tried the standard guide on the main KVCD site, where we use DVD2AVI as a input to TPMGEnc to produce a m1v file. The movie is 90 minutes long with not alot of action but I end up with a file 1Gig in size. It is quite reasonable to watch at this point though. I then encoded the sound into a mp2 file (I have tried different sampling rates 128K,196) and end up with a couple of hundred K bytes. And it still sounds ok.
However when I mux it together using bbmpeg as an SVCD I end up with rubbish. When played the picture breaks up with the audio and it fails to resink at all (this is all on the pc).
Note: I have had no problems producing KVCDx2 that work really well.

My questions are.

1: Is there an idiot guide to producing 120min CD's?

2. Why is the m1v file so large? If I encode with KVCDx2 template at a higher resolution the file size is not much bigger.

3. I see alot of references to filters (which are not included in the guide) on the forum. How do you use them?

4. These are fantastic templates are there more complete guides on how to use them?
:? :?

Have you taken a look at Black Prince's guide? It is complete with what you need to make a great backup of a dvd. You may need to look into how the filters work, but the process is flawless. Here is the link http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2885 Hope this helps you in the world of kvcd.

Still HAVING PROBLEMS

Hello all,
HELP...... I tried the black prince guide on creating a 120min CD with still no success.
I used the avsynth settings recommended and ended up getting a 900Meg video file for an 1:29 Movie. Which is still a bit big. I encoded the audio at 128K mp2 using HeadAc3 and ended up with a 100Meg file. ( I also tried 96K with only a slight improvement in size, so went back to 128K)
If I view the video only (mv1) in PowerDVD the picture is perfect and suffers no breakup in its entire length.
However after combining the audio and the video with bbMPEG I end up with rubbish. The audio is quite presentable with no breakup BUT the video just constantly breaks up and pixelates (turns into blocks). Now if I follow the exact same proceedure using the normal KVCDx2 template for low action I end up with a product that is 1.3Gig in size and is perfectly watchable.

My questions are:

1: Is there some special way to MUX the audio and video using the 120min template?

2: In the first guide I used (the one on the main page) it says to select a Closed GOP so that you can insert chapters (which I do). However when using the 120min template Closed GOP is not selected and so there is no entry points available for chapters.
Can I select a Closed GOP with this template?

3: When I use VCDEasy to get a bin file for burning I end up getting an error at the end of the conversion saying that the end of the file is missing.
However when you play the bin file from end to end it is complete.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this happens?

Thanks for all help in this this.

Are you using TMPGEnc 2.59? If so upgrade to 2.510, I think you will be surprised at how much better the muxing is.

Hello Tenra,
I am using TMPG 2.59. I will try what you suggest however I cannot see how that will have any bearing on the muxing issue.

I use bbmpeg to mux the two streams together, not the muxing tools in TMPGEnc.
I have just followed the directions as directed in the guides.
Additionally bbMPEG does do a good job and it cuts the final product at 795Meg which is a big plus.

regards HotAir

Good point. I didn't catch that the first time. It should not matter then that you were using TMPGEnc 2.59 just to create your video stream.

Still confused

Thanks for the input anyway. :(
I figure I must be doing something wrong to end up with good video and good audio as seperate identities but it turns to rubbish when muxed.
I thought it could be to do with bbMPEG but is so simple I reallt cannot see how it is at fault. I suspect that the real problem is in the video stream somehow.
Is there a guide as to what all the controls mean in TPMGEnc?
I know I am new to this but all knowledge is good knowledge.

Tmpgenc 2.59 was a bad release. Upgrade to 2.510. I had no success until I upgraded to 2.510.

Cheers,

I have upgradeded to TPMGEnc Version 2.510 with no difference in the result. File sizes are similar and again the m1v and the mp2 files are fine by themselves.
It is only when I mux them together that they go crazy.
I have even tried using the simple mux tools in TPMG with no difference in the end result. (which seems a little strange).

Am at a loss.

All input will be appreciated.
Thanks.

HotAir.

As you get the same result with both TMPGEnc and BBMPEG the file might not be the problem...Have you tried playing them with WMP or on your standalone? Also try encoding and muxing a standard VCD and see if you get the same result.

hi friends :D

i'm jumping in...excuse me.

HotAir,
did you try the Red-M guide?

[Hi HotAir,
Just my $0,02. If you are using BBMPeg to mux the video+audio, look at this :

these settings eliminated my problems.

Goog Luck!

Hi All,
I agree with heyitsme. Black Prince's guide is excellent. Just make sure that you have v1.76 of DVD2AVI :!: (This was my major mistake)

When I finally got it going (With thanks to Black Prince), the end result was quite good when I put a 1h20m DVD onto one 80Min CD-R. Where there is rapid movement is where you notice it the most, especially if you want to do a screen capture or when you pause. (Worse watching with MSI DVD than on my DVD Player). When you copy onto 2 CD-R's the results are excellent!! 8)

The final Mpeg ended up being 780Mb, but VCDEasy didn't have any problems with burning onto a 700Mb CD-R.
