KVCD: Best GOP setting for editing with TMPGenc?

Kwag or others-

What setting can I adjust the GOP setting to get better edits? I tried editing and encoded KVCD and since the P-frame count is so high I can't cut where I want......maybe I can use the KVCD matrix and standard VCD GOP settings?

How about making a template with KVCD matrix and standard CBR VCD settings for a compliant VCD with better quality?

Hi telemike,

You can load the KVCD LBR template and set the GOP to 1-5-2-1-0 and set the bit rate to 1,150Kbps. That will be a standard VCD template, with the benefit of the KVCD matrix. You should see less blocks on dark scenes and that will give you better quality than with a standard VCD (MPEG) matrix :D
Give it a try

Can you capture any higher 8O
That won't look very good when it's expanded to 352x240 :?
You can try "Bicubic" resize, but still, the result won't be very good

I am using WinDV2. I have a standard VCD capture setting for my custom profile I use for non critical stuff. I can try the 352x480 capture and then goto 352x240. Will I have to de-interlace?

If your are capturing with VCD settings, the output should already be deinterlaced.

I meant using the "Better" setting on WinDVR2. MPEG-2, 352x480 @ 3600K. If I covert that mpeg-2 to mpeg-1 do i have to de-interlace it or jsut run ti through and gripcrop it at 352x240?

You probably have to deinterlace because 480 lines means that both fields will be captured. If you're not sure what to do, use FieldDeinterlace from the Decomb package, it's a very good and fast deinterlacer.
