What does VBV setting do?

Doing some test encoding on small samples with kvcdx3 I found that reducing the default VBV setting from 40 to 22 reduced file size without affecting quality (to my eye). However, when I try to do full movies I get "floating point errors" from TMPGEnc.

What exactly does this buffer setting do and how can it potentially affect quality and size.

Thanks!

Thanks!

It will mess up playback on just about any standalone DVD player.
It's better to leave it at 40.

Kwag,

Actually I've tried VBV values on small encodes ranging from 22 to 40 and they all work fine on my DVD player. My only problem is the errors during encoding large movies with TMPGEnc.

Thanks for the advice though! :)
