KVCD: FitCD Questions for VRO file source?

Questions on FitCD. When I load a VRO file I get different Source settings example, sometimes I see XVCd or SVCD or 1/2 DVD. Should I have a default setting on the VRO file or accept the settings when I load the file? Next question is when I look at the AVS file that is generated by FitCD it will have different Bilinear Resize settings, should I use the FitCD setting or change to the ones you have suggested? Should I just run the FitCD settings as is without loading your templates (after deleting the #)? I am getting different results on different VRO file an I think it may have something with the Panasonic E20 settings at the time of recording, sometimes I set it for 4 hours or let it adjust to the length of the movie, example if the movie is 99 min I will select the FR setting which will record up to 99 Min, which means a higher quality recording. Your assistance is appriciated.

This is what I do:
I copy the .VRO to my hard disk before processing.
I never read the .VRO directly with FitCD.
I run DVD2AVI on the .VRO and create a project file.
I open the .d2v with FitCD, and generate the .avs.
Use bilinear resize and resize to the target you want.
Then I process the .avs with TMPEG.
I've had TMPEG hang on me several times when reading the .VRO directly, so that's why I use DVD2AVI and a AviSynth script.
That way it works perfectly.

Many thanks, that is exactly what I do, use DVD2AVI, open the d2v with FitCD, but my questions is I get various Source settings, ie 1/2 DVD, SVCD, XVCD and I thnk it may have something to do with the recording time I use, so do I just use whatever the Source tells me or set it to 1/2 DVD? After I get the AVS file do I just use it like it is and open in TMPGEnc or do I need to open your Template and use with the AVS file? Thanks.......

Why Bilinear rather than Bicubic or BicubicPrecise? I was under the impression that the Bicubic modes were 'better'.

Hi Bud:

Yes, you get different sizes, depending on your recording time.
Just leave the output on FitCD to 1/2 DVD if you are recording in 1, 2 or 4 hour mode, and are using the regular KVCD template ( 352x480 ).
If you want to use the KVCDx2 template, use it only for 1 or 2 hour recording mode.
For 1 and 2 hour mode, you can use the XVCD as output in FitCD.
If I remember correctly, the DMR-E20 records 720x480 in one hour, 702x480 in 2 hour, and 352x480 in 4 hour mode.
Please verify this. I don't have a .VRO in my machine right now :wink:
After that, just open the .avs with TMPEG.

Bilinear is used for "Down scaling".
Bicubic is used for "Up scaling".
At least, that's what the industry recommends :roll:

As always thanks, yes your are right on the E20 recording modes, so what I think I will start doing is keep it set on the 352x480 mode, TMPGEnc and your templates seem to like this much better than the original higher E20 setttings (DMR-E20 records 720x480 in one hour, 702x480 in 2 hour, and 352x480 in 4 hour mode). One example I had yesterday was a recording (702x480) of Little Nicky which was timed at 97 Min, when I ran it through the DVD2AVI, AVS and your template set at 352x480 the total file size came out to be just over 865,000, mush too gig for the 80 Min CD (CQ was your defalt of 70). I did record it to a 99 Min CD with no problems and played it back on a Pioneer DV 343, Panasonic LV55 portable, played great, picture was outstanding. So I think leaving the E20 at the 352x480 will solve many problems, just have to get the CQ (Your Template) numbers down to keep everything on one CD.

Yes...I used the AVS script from FitCD with the mod's you had indicated I should, I now think it may have something to do with the DVD2AVI program, I say that because I recently had another problem with a VRO that was an old B&W film, The Caddy it was about 94 Min, ran it through the DVD2AVD, on that one I tried to just run with the basic templates just to see what would happen, TMPGEnc told me it would take 12 Hours to process, so trashed that one and ran it through back through the DVD2AVI Again and the FitCD and your template, came out to be about 675,000 or so. I was using 1.8X DVD2AVI but I changed recently back to DVD2AVI 1.76
