avi copies of the dvd rip are really poor quality? how to fix?
 

Hi all

My first question. I am using Gordian Knot to produce divx copies of the dvdrip. The only problem is i am getting really poor quality, i have followed doom9.orgs guide, but the final avi looks all grainy and bitty especially when fulled screened it looks awful! :(

Does anyone know what i am doing wrong :?

My second question. When using KVCD LBR template, if you have more room to play with filesizes should i increase the min bitrate or max bitrate for better quality :?

For Divx:
Under the general parameters tab, make sure Psychovisual Enhancements is turned off, and Performance Quality is set at slowest. If you are converting a DVD, set the Source Interlace as progressive. I know this sounds obvious but check that the color on your system is set at 32-bit. If you are only doing a one-pass conversion, try doing a double pass, or as many as you like. Converting a low-res movie, to a high-res setting will cause blockiness. Like 352X240 to 640x480.
For Max, Min, Bitrate:
I find that increasing the max bitrate for a high action movie works best.
For a low action movie, increasing the minimum bitrate seems to help the most.

If you've encoded at cq=100 with the LBR template and still have lots of room leftover switch to the 352x240 template (the bitrates are already set so you don't have to reinvent the wheel). You can also take up extra space by encoding audio at higher bitrate.
