KDVD All-in-one approach?

Kwag,

Just upgraded to Avisynth 2.5 - it definately works faster with plugings running in native YV12 mode. Whilst looking through the plugins i noticed a filter called ac3Source which loads in AC3 streams. I tried this and it works a treat with the ac3 audio demuxed from DVD2AVI. I encoded directly to Tmpeg using the following script:

mpeg2source("Commitments.d2v")
ac3Source("Commitments AC3 T01 2_0ch 192Kbps DELAY 0ms.ac3")
#Take out overscan
Crop(16,16,-16,-16)
TemporalCleaner()
DctFilter(1,1,1,1,1,.5,.5,0)
Limiter()
ConvertToRGB24()

I encoded using Tmpegs internal audio routines at 192 Bitrate dual Channel. The result sounds great to me on my tv. The full DVD took 4.5 hours to make on my machine and there was no mucking around with bbmpeg etc. The total encode came to 1.98GB. Enough for 2 films on a DVD.

My question is, have you tried this filter before? Also, I know you don't like Tmpeg's internal audio encoding but i remember you saying that you knew of a plugin which meant the quality would be the same as Headache. I think if this works then it might be a good solution to people who want to encode without all the different steps.

Hi jamesp,

I don't use TMPEG's internal audio encoder for two reasons. At 112Kbps, the sound is a real mess. It has metallic sounds, artifacts, and it's just plain bad. The second reason is that with HeadAC3he, you can downmix the channels to "Surround 2" for Dolby Prologic II receivers. TMPEG can't do that. Audio created by HeadAC3he, even at 112Kbks, sounds beautiful :)

hi Kwag..

Can I jump in here.. do you have any suggestions for Audio that is from
a captured app.. ??

Say, from DV being that it's 48k and using HeackAChe which I have used,
but am not experienced w/ its many features, specially for AVI sources.

Any suggestions would be welcomed - thanks.

Hi vhelp,

Extract your audio with Vdub, and process it with HeadAC3he.

True - Headache is great at low bitrates. But for encoding a DVD i can't tell the difference between it and TMpeg at 192 or 224. However, if it can't do Prologic then thats 2-1 to Headache!

I was really just looking at alternatives to the very long procedure of making a DVD and ac3source does seem to work very well. For example, the standard way of making a KDVD by using Headache, TMPEG (with avisynth) and BBMPEG on my machine can take about 6-7 hours. I've found using avisynth 2.5 and encoding the audio in tmpeg direct from the ac3 stream, and by using MpegSource instead of Mpeg2Source this is cut to about 3.5 to 4 hours without me having to use 4 different programs.

Hi guys!
Lots of "jumps" here… let me in! :mrgreen:
Just want to take a ride in this thread and use it to rip off one doubt.

I read here in KVCD (can’t find the thread) some asking about dialogs volume coming out too low (if compared with music and ambient sounds), when using surround2 method. I think that could be a problem of who don’t have a prologic2 receiver.
I read somewhere in d9 a guy talking about this and advising to set the center channel to +3 or +6db (default is -3) in BeSweet. Headac3he's suround2 mode also set the center channel to -3db. Anyone ever tried to set it to +3db (or +6db) to see what's the result? :roll:

hi mauddib..

So far, I only found the following links:
* Center gained by -3 db ?
* Help:ACM failed to suggest a compatible PCM format
