KVCD: 352x480 vs. 352x240/lbr ?

Why when I'm encoding a movie 720x480 with 352x480 template it was
resized too much and I was unable to watch it but when I was resizing it
with lbr (352x240) it was fine? I was thinking that as soon as template
resolution is lower then the original should be fine. Obviously I was wrong.
What's the way to find out which template is the best in different
situations?

Did you actually try to watch the 352x480 moive on your television or did you just watch the .mpg file? My dvd player resizes the 352x480 template to make it look better on the tv, and I guess having the extra 240 horiz lines helps the qual of the picture. I dunno, I don't like the 352x480 template personally. I usually use the 528x480 Mpeg1 template for most movies that I want to span 2cds and I use the 352x240 resolution when I'm trying to fit a movie onto a single cd. But I think the best way to choose is to determine if you want to sacrafise size for quality or vise-versa.

No, I didn't encode it to the very end. I just saw it in tmpgenc and I
decided to stop it because it was too small. I do have experience when it
looks bad in tmpgenc, looks bad on tv too.

I do agree with you about 352x240 on 1 cd and 528x480 for two cds. How
about lbr? Are you using it to fit a movie on one cd?

kwag,

I think there is a problem with http://www.kvcd.net/dvd-models page.
I can open anything but that one. Sometimes it works just fine, sometimes
it doesn't. I don't have an answer what it can be but just let you know.
