KVCD: Which template is best?

Hi,very new to all of this.I have been doing vcd's for awhile but just the regular templates with tempge.I have been reading and trying to understand this forum for a couple of weeks now and am starting to get a few things but boy its confusing if your computer stupid like myself.

Anyway the tempaltes look awsome(if i can only learn how to use eveything).

My question is which is the best tempalte to get the best quality for roughly a 100 minute or less divx movie on 2 cds.

Also when i have tried loading lets say a kvcd tempalte that is to fit lets say 180 minute movie onto 1 cd into tmpge it says the final size in the wizard will be 1400 mb,is this correct and how will that fit on 1cd.

Please don't point me to guides or anything because i think i have read most of them already but still am kind of clueless :D

Like jorel said, download the compatibility image and see which templates are compatible with your player.

100 minutes will fit easily on one CD! Use the KVCDx3 template.

Don't use the wizard, close it and load the template with the "Load" button.

Need anymore help, just ask! :)

Hi AmericanKickboxer,

I'm not an authority on divx/xvid stuff , but I do know that you should use the template whose resolution is the closest match to your original source. I couldn't say for sure whether you should use the x3 or 352x240Plus templates (someone else will chime in I'm sure). Of course, if you do a small sample with both and compare the results, then you really won't need anyone else's advice.

Yes, that's the way it works.

Higher resolutions and higher CQ levels will both give you better quality (although you shouldn't go higher than the original source's resolution). At only 400MB, of course your kvcd is going to look VERY VERY poor :!: That's only half as large as it should be! You should be using File-Size Prediction to get the best quality out of the allotted space on your cd-r. If you're just loading up a kvcd template in TMPG and guessing a CQ to use, then you're not going to get the best possible quality on your encode....and you will very likely have to play a game of hit-and-miss and re-encode many times until your outcome is the right size to fill your disc. Also, if you happen to be converting to KVCD from a poor quality source to begin with, you can't expect to turn it into the Mona Lisa. "Garbage In = Garbage Out".

If you follow Black Prince's and Red-M's guides and use filesize prediction, you'll be impressing your friends in no time. Good luck.

This reply is late, but you've definitely come to the right place. These folks here have been extremely helpful to me as well (a newbie) with all my questions. I don't think I've ever participated in a more friendly, helpful forum.
