KVCD: At what point should I consider Mpeg-2?
 

I'm encoding 'Frailty,' and it looks to be very compressible. I want to avoid telltale block noise as much as possible, so I'd like to ramp up the variables for max and min bitrate in addition to CQ. Now, assuming I get those values up as high as, say 3500 max and 1300 min, should I consider switching to mpeg 2? DVD's are encoded in mpeg 2, so I would think when the bitrate gets really high it will perform better. Or maybe I'm just delerious. It's 2 in the morning and I got up at 5am the previous day... 8O

Well buddy here's my tip: don't go for MPEG-2, unless you wanna record a DVD-R. :wink: If you have a very compressible movie, go for MPEG1 at 704x480/576 as this will give you an incredible sharpness. Leave the Max-Bitrate at 2500, and raise the CQ to the desired filesize. This will give you a better result than switching to MPEG2. This is with TMPGEnc by the way!
oh yeah and you can also set the overscan higher at this resolution. Try to include this to the last line of your script:
