DVD2SVCD: TMPGenc Vs CCE
 

What is the time difference between the two? Can CCE do something like a CQ mode?

The difference in speed between CCE and TMPGEnc on a 2.4 Ghz/533Mhz bus is huge. If you do not use any avisynth filters, CCE can do a movie in almost 2:1 ratio(2 hour movie requires one hour of encoding). I usually get close to a 1:2 ratio with TMPGEnc. The Pro version of CCE offers CQ converting. The Basic does not.

I am trying some 1-pass VBR with CCE on my Celeron 1200, 245MB. Looks like it takes less than 5 hours to do a 2 hour movie. Same movie with TMPGenc and KVCDx3 takes 12 hours

Hope you're talking about MPEG-2, because CCE's quality in MPEG-1 is crap, compared to TMPEG's :!:
However, CCE's quality in MPEG-2 is very good 8)

with the later versions of tmpgenc, not much.
It's kind-a like the difference between coke & pepsi ,,, some folks say there's no difference while others say there is.
tmpgenc is usually better for mpg1 and its free, the plus version is not free and it will do mpg2. CCE is really good at mpg2 {and svcd} and could be buggy with mpg1, & its expensive. They a "lite" version or a Personal Edition or so too.

I still use tmpgenc version 12 & 12a for nostalgic reasons. 8O

MPEG-2 using DVD2SVCD. That seems to work the best for my DVD copies since MPEG-1 KVCDx3 takes way too long :evil: even though my samples were stunning :D . I am using MPEG-1 352 x 240 KVCD for my VHS and TV captures. I guess I should sample a 480 x 480 MPEG-1? :?:

My only other disadvantage to KVCD is having to use 29.97 fps instead of 24 fps. SVCD's play fine at 24 fps so DVD2SVCD works great for that.
