Good picture quality, but blocks all over the place?
 

Hi,
I put Boondock Saints on 2 CDs, I used the optimal script (528x 480).
The quality is actually pretty good ociture wise but there are most of the time little blocks, which destroy the picture totally, and that suckz,
I have no idea what I did wrong, does it do the mistakes during hte muxing in bbmpeg??
During the encoding in Tmpgenc, you can see mistakes, but i have no idea how to get rid of them.
I can there be any mistakes because I work in the laptop during the encoding, and sometimes it pauses cuz the laptop cant take all??

Please, help me, I dont get that f.... muvie encoded!!

I think something went wrong :!:
I have that DVD, but I did it a long time ago. I'm ripping it right now, and I'm going to run prediction to see how it looks. I think that Boondock Saints could actually go on one CD :!:, because it's only 97 minutes 8O so I would put that on one CD-R at 704x480 :!:
I'm doing it right now, so I'll post results here and a sample 8)

I encoded that movie just about 2 weeks ago, and with the current optimal script I was able to put that movie on one CD-R @ 544x576 in really good quality. No blocks at all, maybe a little soft, but the movie itself wasn't very clean (PAL version).

Here's a sample, encoded at 528x480 with a CQ of 58.54 for one CD: www.kvcd.net/boon.mpg

I did notice that my DVD is encoded as 4:3, and the movie is wide screen. So the black bars are really NOT black, so I used LetterBox(108, 102, 16, 16) on my script to completely mask "black" at the "Supposed" black area. You can find that out if you load your .d2v in TMPEG and go into clip frame. There you can adjust the top and bottom until you find the proper crop size, and then use those values in your avisynth script. The sample is the way the movie would look on one CD-R. On two CDs, it would look just like a DVD.

I didn't go for one CD at 704x480, because of the activity in the movie. It doesn't look very good on one CD at that resolution. However, if I was going for two CDs, then I would go 704x480.

I guess i gonna put it on 2 CDs, because I wanna have 2 languages on there anyway!!!
By the way, does anybody have the german audio (Tonspur), or do u know where u can get them??
Should I use the new avisnyth?
How long does it take u to encode it??

It take me mor the 15 hours to encode the movie with the resolution of 704/480!!
But the quality isnt that great neither!!
Can u do it faster and better?
Could u show me the script u used to encode that muvie, that would be great!!

The speed depends on your machine. I have a P4 @1.6Ghz, and that movie takes about 5 hours to encode at 528x480 using AviSynth 2.52 and the current adaptive script.
Your sample is encoded incorrectly :!:
You encoded that at 29.97fps. Is your DVD NTSC or PAL :?:
If it's NTSC, you didn't use "Force FILM" in DVD2AVI, and you encoded at 29.97fps instead of 23.976fps :!:

yeah i guess that was my problem,
should I use the old script now or wouldu advise me to use the new 2.52??
Do I have to do taht with PAL also??

I encode no with --> ToK (MPEG-1 528x480 23.976fps CQ 72.77) !!!
I try one CD again!!!
It shows that 14 hours are remaining, it shouldnt take that long, i have a laptop AMD 1600+ (1,53 ghz), that should run like crazy!!

Not sure about what to do with PAL. I'm in NTSC land.
If it's NTSC, that movie must use "Force FILM" on DVD2AVI's project file, and you encode at 23.976fps.
In any case, go for AviSynth 2.52 ;)

I did that one CD with 63 CQ, that was good, but i guess I go for 2 CDs.

I kinka looks worse when u put it on a CD!!
That's weird, ru sure that I should encode it with 29.970??

Another problem is that with avisynth 2.52 my computer freezes, it stops encoding after 2 hours, than i have to restart!!
ANy help??
