Kvcd template creates wrong resolution mpg file?
 

I'm using the 1/2 kvcd template on Tmpgenc to write a cvd, but the finished file is never the proper 352x480 resolution.

I think the problem is my video source. I am using virtualdub to do the frameserving since I need to use the vobsub filter for the subtitle. The file I am serving with virtualdub is a dvd ripped by smart ripper then dvd2avi.

Everything works fine when I only only using virtualdub to make a divx, but when I use virtualdub to frameserve to tmpgenc it ends up with like strange resolutions. I do have the correct resolution set in tmpgenc to 352x480.

By the way, if I use a different video source like the divx I made with virtualdub then tmpgenc works perfect and creates a 352x480 file.

Please help as I'd really like to make my first cvd. Thanks

Hi tal65,

You don't need Vdub. You can use an avisynth script with a single line to include your subtitles. Something like: vobsub("X:\YourPath\YourSubsFile") WITHOUT the extension. Vobsub will find it automatically. The advantage is that you will have on your hands all the avisynth filters and current scripts, which are far more powerful that Vdub's filters.

Thanks again. I'll have a look at the guide as I just used avisynth to frameserve to tmpgend and the resulting resolution was still like 852x480.

That's such a strange resolution and I have no idea where its coming from. Am I not setting the resolution in the correct spot, I set it in the Video tab under size right?

In fact after I load the 1/2 kvcd template there's nothing I changed. So why is the resulting resolution not 352x480? Thanks

Download "MovieStacker". It will create .avs scripts with correct parameters :)

Ok I'm reading the guide right now. I had always assumed that just setting the size to 352x480 in tmpgenc would automatically resize the output file for you, but I guess that's not the case is it?

It will resize the output all right, but if the input is not correctly set, your output aspect will be wrong :)

hmm I'm such a newb :) I was just playing around as it's getting late but I changed the "Aspect Ratio" in the "Video" tab on tmpgenc to 1:1 (vga) and now my output actually has the correct 352x480 aspect ratio. Is it ok to do this, or should I leave it on 4:3 ? Because when I leave it on 4:3 it resizes the output and gives me a 4:3 aspect so it's not 352x480 of course.

Also when I test the video on windows media player 6.4 the video has the correct 352x480 size now, but it looks very squished as it should for a resolution of 352x480. But is this normal and will it playback normal on my dvd player after I make the cvd? Thanks
