TMPGEnc: safely divide the original avi and re-encode in small chunks?

While this isn't a question regarding KDVD, the solution is probably buried somewhere in TMPGEnc. I am hoping someone holds the answer...

I live in what could only be considered a very OLD building, prone to power outages during the crazy storm season we have been having here on the east cost in the US. Due to this, I lose power on such a regular basis I can set my clocks to it when a storm starts.

Before you ask, yes I have a UPS, but not a 2 hr one. I use a dedicated AMD 750mHz machine to do my encoding, which usually takes about 24hrs to do a 2 hr long movie (avisynth -> TMPGEnc).

So my question, can I safely divide up the original avi and encode in small chunks and then combine them back together in some fashion as to allow for the following:

1) Maintaining the CBR settings using KDVD matrix
2) DVD compliant
3) No audio sync issues (which I had the last time I tried stitching)

Thanks ahead of time!

Hi trill,

I have a suggestion. You can do a full encode, and if you loose power, you open your encoded MPEG file with Vdub and find the last encoded frame. Then run TMPEG again and start from the following frame. Repeat the process if (unlucky!) necessary :)
After you are done, join all your segments :D

Had never thought of that (okay, I feel silly!)
Anyway, stuck the trim function in after the Convert and all is well.

Should I combine the files outside of the authoring program I use, or should I leave DVD-Lab handle the muxing of it?

I would join them before I use the authoring program. Maybe even with TMPGEnc tools :!:

Thanks, Kwag!

btw, thanks for the release of KDVD and the avisynth optimal script that you've published.
