KVCD: Which computer will encode a kvcdx2 faster?
ok i am looking at getting a new computer but i need to know which one
i need to know how long it will take to encode with each machine here is my first choice compaq Intel Pentium 4 2.2 GHz processor w/ 128KB L2 Cache & 400 mhz fsb Operating System Windows XP Home Edition Operating System Memory 128 MB DDR / PC2700 (ill update the memory to 512mb eventually when office max has it free after rebate) Hard Drive 40 GB 5400 rpm Ultra DMA Hard Drive 48X max. CD-ROM Drive(i have a dvd-rom a dvdrw and 3 cdrw drive laying around my house) Keyboard and Mouse Keyboard & Internet Scroll Mouse Sound Card Integrated 5.1 Capable Sound w/ Front Audio ports Video Card Integrated Graphics (it has an agp slot) 1.44 MB Floppy Drive this costs $299 Dell Dimension 4600 Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.40GHz with 533MHz front side bus 512MB Dual Channel 333MHz DDR SDRAM Dell® Quietkey® Keyboard 64MB DDR NVIDIA* GeForce4 MX Graphics Card with TV-Out 40GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive (7200 RPM) Dell® 2-button scroll mouse Integrated Intel® PRO 10/100 Ethernet 48x CD-ROM Drive Integrated 5.1 Audio with Dolby Digital 5.1 capability this costs $599 Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.60GHz w/800MHz front side bus Hyperthreading Technology 512MB Dual Channel 400MHz DDR SDRAM 64MB DDR NVIDIA* GeForce4 MX Graphics Card with TV-Out 40GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive (7200 RPM) Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition Dell® 2-button scroll mouse Integrated Intel® PRO 10/100 Ethernet 48x CD-ROM Drive Integrated 5.1 Audio with Dolby Digital 5.1 this is $679 im leaning towards the compaq because of the low price and that i have alot of components laying around my house i need to know if it would make a significant difference in encoding time if i got the compaq over the two dells i am going to use this computer to encode movies into kvcds i need to know how fast the machines will encode an average movie |
The 2.4 will be faster. I have a hyperthreaded P4 processor and in my benchmarks hyperthreading increases my encode time by 30% all other things being equal.
Whatever you do don't get the P4 2.2. You said it has 128K L2 Cache so it must be a celeron. |
by the way, where can i get that compaQ for only 299? man, that's a huge saving hehe :Ds...

Wow that's very cheap....is that a refurbished or brand new? would you mind sharing to us where we can bought it too?
Thanks, dredj |
