;)

This looks very interesting :!: :!:

I'm still trying to fully understand how it works though. Is the principle like this:

encode video file at CQ = 100
create vob with TMPGenc dvd author
shrink the vob to fit x # of 80 min cds with DVDShrink
create mpg file with vob and mp2 file

I'm in the process of trying this out now.

This looks like a good solution for the problem of when video file "accidentally" goes over the wanted size too.

Thanks!
ren

Avalon 07-19-2003 06:09 PM

Yeah, but you know that CQ 90 is the best way...
all over it only makes bigger files!!!!

I think U got it!!!

rendalunit 07-20-2003 08:18 AM

I had a problem- TMPGenc DVD-author wouldn't accept my m1v file because it's 528x480. It wouldn't let me "ignore" it.

I guess the video has to be a valid dvd resolution, huh?

Avalon 07-20-2003 11:46 AM

No it doesnt!!!!
You must patch the file!

Shell i write this as addon for the guide?
I think so...
See when its done.

@kwag: If it´s done, will U host the guide on Ur site... the english one?

I finished the guide!

Look here: Avalon's KVCD2DVD Guide (exclusive for kvcd.net)

Hi Avalon, I'm not sure what you mean here. Patch the video file (with a phoney header or something) or patch TMPGEnc DVD-Author?

Thanks,
ren

edit: I found the answer to my own question in your KDVD guide :!: use DVD Patcher
Thanks!

Hi rendalunit..

Try these LINKS to D/L file:

* DVDPatcher_v106.zip
* DVDPatcher_v106.zip

EDIT:.. you have to go to the page and D/L by clicking it only!!

* http://kickme.to/DVDPatcher

Personally, I just don't get it, why they do this, and then the page redirects
to an error page or something.. forcing you to visit them instead. anyways..

Hi Vhelp!

This is a very useful Appl. but you have to use it with caution!

There is a Way to encode your video at 528x480 and afterwards to patch the haeder to for example to 480x480 .... Author your dvd ... muxing it using the DVD authoring Appl. and finally setting back the .VOBs to thier original 528x480 using this patcher again...

... but no matter how ... some DVD Players won't play those burned DVDs correctly cause the Size is not DVD standard... its like a xDVD.
I tried to burn some of my old SVCD Sized Movies (480x576) to DVD-R by patching them. But my DVD Player cant't play them correctly.

I hope others have more luck that their DVD player supports this.

fastbeagle 07-28-2003 04:44 PM

I tried this method but the result will not play well(skipping)I suspect it has to do with the dvdpatcher(i guess i'll wait awhile before trying again)

my another stup question:

if i don't have a dvd burner, only one LG dvd player,
can i install dvdshrink to got the vobs?

the idea is cut the vobs like i do using vobedit and ifoedit.
dvdshrink will work to do this job without dvdburner?
 my system will "see" it? :?
seems that will work but i have my doubts....

thanks in advance!

Hello Jorel and all:

Perhaps you are already aware of this, but just in case: Please be aware that when using dvdshrink, some players will react to layer changes, and the result within such players, is a freeze in the picture that may last for 1 second or will just stay there until you push fast forward, and sometimes even that does not work. As an example, you may remember that I purchased the CyberHome unit, and that I also have a Toshiba and an RCA player....Well, the CyberHome unit freezes on me, but only momentarily, anywhere from 1 sec up to 10 seconds, very annoying, the RCA severely freezes on me when playing the DVD, however the Toshiba plays it with no difficulties whatsoever.
There is a way to correct this via ifoedit (I have not tried it yet), and the folks from dvdshrink are familiar with this issue and may correct it in their new version, which should be coming out in about 2 weeks, maybe.... (Have you seen Nero 6? It has some dvdshrink functions).
As comparison, dvd2one does not show this problem, but it does not have the functions that dvdshrink has.

Check the following link if you would like to know a bit more about this:

Thanks
Totonho03

Edit: I do not know if the layer problem mentioned above will affect this method or not.

fastbeagle 07-29-2003 02:51 PM

Yeah i think the problem is my home dvd player(which is strange because it plays eveything....even things with severe skips)The file plays fine on the Nero media player(nero 6 does have quite alot of stuff.....i haven't fiddled with it's capture program yet)
.I think it might have something to do with my bitrate (which was 104857200 and became 3500000).I'll read up on that ifoedit thing (or I'll wait for a fix :P )It'll be a shame when dvd media becomes cheaper and more advanced, because this kvcd stuff is a blast

jorel 08-02-2003 10:20 AM

thank you Otto and fastbeagle!

Has anyone seen this guide? It is a dvdshrink guide, and it is very detailed.
http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php

Avalon also has good and detailed guides, but this one is different.
