Why not convert DVD-RAM from DVD recorder to KVCD?

ok here is my question if you have a stand-a-lone dvd recorder than why don't you just record to a ram extract the data in a drive and encode that to your KDVD format i an just saying that it would be less trouble to do it that way than to capture direct to a pc this is how i do it my method is to
1) get the TOSHIBA SD-M1612 that reads DVD-RAM transfer your recorded video to a hard drive
2)encode to KDVD
3)burn using neros new authoring app (non-standard)
4) enjoy my movie on DVD
after i bought the Panasonic DMR-E10, pioneers DVR-104 and the TOSHIBA SD-M1612 i have just found video capture to be a waste of my time
do you get quality when recording to DVD at the highest setting ie XP
PS where do you get the koss portable player i really would like to get one for myself but i cant find it anywhere

I don't know where to get the koss portable.
I capture in different ways. For my Stargate series, which are 1 hour, I use the DMR-E20. For long captures, longer than 2 hours, I use the Pinnacle Bungee. I don't like the 4 hour capture in the DMR-E20 that much. In 1 and 2 hour capture mode, it's excelent. But the other day, my wife asked me to record "Path to War" from HBO, and that's 3 hours long. So the Bungee came in handy. I captured the complete 3 hours, and encoded with the KVCD template. I put the complete thing in 2 CD-R's. Looks excelent. If I had captured this with the DMR-E20, I would have had to use 6 hour mode. And that looks like crap!.

E20

Kwag,

One correction to your Panasonic E20 results, I also use this and they have a built in feature that acts as a Variable type setting, in others words if you only have 3 hours to record the system will adjust itself to the proper setting to cover that 3 hours, it's not quit 4 hours but much less then 6 hours. I have used this to do 2 1/2 hour movies off HBO and Starz, works great and gives me great results. If you check the book or in the timer setting you will see what they call Fr (2 Hr 4 Hr 6 Hr and FR ). Not sure if this helps, but works for me.

Aloha
Bud
